taxi/van service recommendations?
just wondering if anyone has any experiences/opinions/recommendations on taxi services around killington. specifically, i am going to need transportation (probably just one way) for roughly ten people on saturday night from the access road to our house right by the rutland airport. planning to get quotes and try to reserve something in the next day or so. has anyone on here used any of the local companies in a similar situation? opinions? recommendations? price expectations? please let me know any thoughts you may have.... thanks....

Do they provide the sheet or do you have to bring your own?junior wrote:Ice House Taxi

You have to bring your own sheet, but they have scissors in the van and will cut out the holes for you.Bubba wrote:Do they provide the sheet or do you have to bring your own?junior wrote:Ice House Taxi
They are also running a spring special. It's called "Bring your own Cross Thursdays." You bring your own Cross and they supply the gasoline and the matches.

Re: taxi/van service recommendations?
We have a user here who used to drive for them. I think he left their employment. I thought he had said that he had left them.NJsurfer30 wrote:okay im confused..... what is all that in reference to?
He's the Grand Wizard of the KKK or tries to be at least.
Lives in a trailer, has the one tooth and drives what he claims is a race car.
Beware of fools & trolls here, they lurk everywhere.

It's in reference to Ice House being an equal opportunity employer.NJsurfer30 wrote:okay im confused..... what is all that in reference to?

I know Junior had a horrible experience with Icehouse. Left him stranded, never showed...

So we needed to send our AuPer home this morning so she could spend New years with her boyfriend in New York. We made arrangements yesterday with Ice House Taxi. We spoke to a man named John at IceHouse.
He told us the fare to Rutland Amtrak was $25 from Killington. I mentioned the K-Zone discount and he said he would do it for $20. The train leaves at 7:40 am so he said he'd pick up Hana at our condo at 6:45. We confirmed the reservation with John on the phone. He was very nice and seemed to know what he was doing.
At 6am this morning, we get a call from another taxi company (or individual-I don't know) and the guy said John from Ice House Taxi called him at 3am this morning to do the pickup for him. I said no problem. Then the guy goes on to say that the fare will be at least $40. He won't do it for the $20 we had agreed on. It would be at least $40. He basically said that it wasn't his problem and that John screwed up with the price. Very very poor customer service on the part of Ice House Taxi.
We cancelled the taxi and my wife is on her way to Rutland with Hana right now so she can make her train on time.
I don't know if this is the level of service that one should expect from Ice House Taxi, but if this turns out to be the norm with them, I would strongly recommend that people use another service. Either Gramps or Killington taxi or one of the free services on the access road like 422-FREE should be much more reliable.
I hope that this is simply an isolated incident with them and they are actually a lot more reliable than what we saw this morning.
Just thought I'd share our first (and last) experience with Ice House taxi. Do with it what you will.
From 2 days later by "Tuba":
I must tell you and all that are reading of my horrible experience with Ice House. Not only are they unreliable, but they pick people up with no regards to their promise of return.
I have had two experiences with this service. One was from the Amtrak station in Rutland where some guy that drove like a maniac brought me up to the mountain and never honored the return this morning. Thank God for Gramps Shuttle and a driver named Terry. I called him at the eleventh hour this morning to make my train and he not only got me there on time but apologized for the poor service of his rival company of Ice House. Pretty remarkable in this day and age.
The second such experience was just last night when Ice House brought a group of us over to the Inn at Long Trail for New Years. We set up a time for a return and they never showed. Finally we called Gramps and again Terry "squeezed us in" among is own reservations and got us home safely and promptly in the time he quoted as well as for less money than Ice House. I don't know about anyone else but from now on you can have Ice House, I will always use Gramps Shuttle. Dependability goes much further than race car drivers and empty promises.
Thanks Gramps and especially Terry for your great and dependable service.
