Killington Customer Survey Question #27
On the passholder survey, there is a question that implies what they are considering doing for capital improvements this summer and beyond, and are gathering input. The question is:
What improvements would you like to see at the resort? (list 2)
□ Replace the Snowdon quad
□ New Peak restaurant
□ New Day Lodges
□ Improved Snowmaking
□ More Grooming
□ Less Grooming
□ New Killington Village
□ Other ____________________
Interesting there are no other lifts mentioned. I say work on the peak, both a new lodge and a more viable early season lift solution.
Respectfully submitted,
Mister Moose, Sec'y, Save the Snowdon Quad Society

Re: Killington Customer Survey Question #27
I agree keep the Snowdon quad. Just move it over to Cascade, and replace it with HSQ. I'm thinking green! Recycle it.
Peak lodge I don't care about because they close it at 3 (about the time I'm ready for a beer) and the rest of the time I can't get there because of the line at K1. Probably a good investment (weddings, etc.) but not even a ski decision.
Base lodges? KBL is the oldest and most in need of refurb. I'd join the Superstar pub side with the mahogony Ridge side. One large open area. One bar at the SS end. There's plenty of space in KBL, it is just poorly used. And a deck!

Better plan: take all that dough and stuff it in the pockets of pols, party hacks, and various officials and fix BMMC once and for all. Bribery is still legal in Vermont, isn't it? I'd even pay off Senator Shortski, even though he'd do it for nothing anyway.

Re: Killington Customer Survey Question #27
#1 by far and always is Improved Snowmaking
Without it the other questions don't matter and early season would be around New years day and late season would be Feb. That's if it's a great snow year...

Re: Killington Customer Survey Question #27
it would take a total demolition to fix the peak lodge.
Only dynamite would decimate the cluster flies that live up there.
Who in their right mind would consider a wedding reception up there?
Personally, I think a Vail-style parking facility might be worth it.

Forever .. Goat Path
Re: Killington Customer Survey Question #27
My guess is that they would demolish it and make a bigger facility that would encompass a landing indoor for the gondola so people that use it for weddings, parties, etc... won't have to deal with the elements. 1/2 the current lodge is useless rotting space right now with the old gondola landing still there. I think the first thing they're gonna do is replace the Snowden quad (probably this summer) and try to fix some of the clusterF intersections in that area then the Peak Lodge in the next couple years...brownman wrote:it would take a total demolition to fix the peak lodge.

Re: Killington Customer Survey Question #27
What is interesting is what they left off their list: an upper mountain lift to get back to the peak. My take is they've already decided to do it. It may just be a surface lift, but regardless, that is "Stop The Presses!" news. Kudos to Nyberg and Cumming for getting it done.

Yeah, they're not tipping their hat there. Or is it tipping their hand?rogman wrote:What is interesting is what they left off their list: an upper mountain lift to get back to the peak. "Stop The Presses" says Rogman, a long time skier at famed Killington resort. When asked just exactly what the news was, Rogman said, "I haven't heard anything official. It's what I didn't hear." When pressed on just exactly what "it" was, Rogman quipped, "If Clinton didn't have to define it, then neither do I. I just know that when I don't hear it, it's something really big... Big, I tell you."
Neither Mr Cumming nor Mr Nyberg returned any calls requesting comment. Killington is the largest ski resort in Vermont, and recently announced that they will stay open until May 2nd, even though it is a Sunday.

Re: Killington Customer Survey Question #27
As for the peak lodge - Eh. Keep it structurally sound enough to stay standing and we're good. It's not open most of the time, and not usually full....so other than $$$ for maintaining it, why bother? However, I think it's time is coming soon, I poked my head in an unlocked door or two in the past, and it looks pretty scary in some areas. Replace it with a aesthetically nicer structure with a good deck, when it's needed...no rush.
Personally, my vote goes for the following modest improvements in the off-season:
- Early season surface lift. I don't care how, just make one. Up the DD or Cascade headwalls? Sounds great.
- Paint for the SRT and Snowdon Triple and Poma. (All the parts that haven't been painted last year).
- Fix the snowmaking on Valley Plunge and Lower Pipe Dream. Two fun trails, that would be nice to get a little base on.
- Another fan gun or two where it seems fit, and some more new towers.
- Mow Valley Plunge...again.
There we go. Making what Killington claims, and reality, slightly more in line with each other, something to take pictures of/brag about (snowguns), and aesthetic improvements.
In the no money, just thinking category:
- Rethink the Skye Peak Quad setup. In my opinion, having a SPQ line that's less than 10 minutes on a weekend (and an easier time getting around for both beginners and everyone else), is far more important than skiing Skyeburst T2B. While BMQ>SRT is nice, it requires the SRT to be running, and isn't something the directionless figure out. You don't need to let them cut across Needle's, just a way into GE. Basically, a beginner should be able to go: K-peak>Skyeship. (Stage 1 or 2).
- Remove the nets as the areas of the mtn close, maybe plow a little snow onto the crossover as well. No big deal, and free open terrain to brag about.
- Skye Peak Quad liftline, as a marked *natural* trail? Cut the tooth, keep the cliff. Northern Exposure at SR is a good trail to take cues from.
