Bad Restaurant Experience - Three Tomatoes Trattoria

Post by andyzee »

Had one today that got me going. We're in Rutland, where we've gone to a number of good restaurants. Today I ask my wife where she wants to eat and she wasn't sure but said maybe a Steak house, since she wasn't sure, I was also thinking about Little Harry's. As I was taking a shower I remembered we went this place, Three Tomatoes Trattoria, a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty good. As I come out of the shower I mention it to my wife and she states she was thinking the same thing so off we go.

We get to this establishment in downtown Rutland, get a table, order food, not bad. Then we decide to have cappuccino with a shot of Sambuca on the side. The waitress comes back with the cappuccino and states they were out of coffee mugs. She served the coffee in cocktail glasses, the hourglass shaped kind and place a couple of glasses along side and says something about Sambuca. Me and my wife both thought the glasses were for Sambuca that she would be bringing, but no, we picked up our glasses and notice a little liquid in the bottom. Well I find it hard to believe that this is a shot so I call her back and inform her that we ordered shot, I say what is this. She states she thought I wanted a splash of Sambuca, never heard of this, but ok, I ask her to bring shots. I also ask for teaspoons for the cappuccino. She comes back with two glasses and explains that since she already brought the splashes, she just split one shot for us. Couldn't be bothered already so I say OK. Next she explains that we can just use the spoons we have, they were big soup spoons. OK, at this point I just got up to look for the manager.

We finally get a manger, I explain to her that we were in the restaurant once before and enjoyed it, after this experience were very disappointed. She apologizes and explains that they were out of coffee mugs and that they only have 10 teaspoons and have more on order! This is not a small place, it's a good size establishment with plenty of customers, they only have 10 teaspoon?! After we finish the cappuccino and desert, the manager brings back the check, apologized for our being disappointed. Not for them not have mugs or spoons but for the fact we were disappointed and explains that she deducted 10% from our bill for the inconvenience. The bill after deduction was $62.73, the deduction was $4 and change. Well needless to say, the tip was 27 cents, I wanted to leave a note explaining that I was out of money and had more on order, but just wanted to get out of this dump.

This may seem a bit petty, but you know what, no mugs, no teaspoons, they should not be selling coffee. Eating out is about more than ijust the food, it's also the experience. This was a bad one, we won't be going back.

We have a grill with us, we have food, so that was an option. However we also have money and decided to have a nice restaurant experience.

Worthless without the name of the establishment.

I'm curious if I have ever been there.

I was a little hesitant about putting the name in, but fair enough, subject updated. Three Tomatoes Trattoria

Been to Three Tomatoes in both Burlington and Rutland and never had a bad experience. Sorry to hear you had one but if I were you I'd give them another chance. Of course, you might want to call ahead and see if they have enough mugs and teaspoons before you go.

Skis were not made to slam off metal rails over and over...about 60 days of that and they completely fall apart...

I"ll say one thing I liked the food, but when a manager comes out and tells me that they only have 10 teaspoons and have more on order, I'm sorry, I have a problem with that. Not to mention, ran out of coffee mugs. You know what, maybe they shouldn't be selling coffee. Nah, there's plenty of other good restaurants around. Speaking of Burlington, I was actually felt like heading up there for dinner, shame it's a bit of a ride. Last few times we were there we ate at Ri Ra Irish Pub, great food!

maybe they had the spoons on order and they didn't get them in yet?
but really after they took 10% off you still left her a $.27 tip. Nice. guess that's the last time you go there unless of course you like eating waitress flem..
We go there 2-3x/mth. never had a problem

Yeah, it will be the last time. I typically tip 20%. With the attitude I got here, .27 was being generous. And believe me, I'm not fussy, I've been in places where the food was so/so and have left 20%. How the F can you even tell a customer you only have 10 teaspoons?
