Should I get another snowboard?

Post by jon4snow »

So... the local shops are all having sales... do I really "need" another board?

I already have:
Burton Custom 151
Ride Control 155

Options still in stock...
Burton Custom 151 (can't hurt to have a spare, right?)
Burton Uninc 151 (It's the twin tip custom basically... center stance)
Burton Mallow 162 (It's the newer fish powder board ... 20cm taper at back... though they actually designed it to ride smaller then you normally would)

Proabbly anything else you can think of too... they still have a ton of stuff in stock. Ride/Burton/Arbor (didn't look they had anything but the low end arbor stuff) / Nitro/Etc.

Somebody talk me into/out of another board.

Yeah maybe it was the 152... close enough.

Am I really going to notice the difference between a custom and an uninc? Isn't it basically the same board construction wise, just with the stance more centered?

It's brave in NJ ... 40% off on board/skis right now.

Yeah, I was toying with it... but they only had it in like 162 or 164 (whatever the size is) ... that seems pretty big for me (I ride a 151 or 155 right now) especially ince the malalo is supposed to be ridden slightly smaller.

How's it handle out of the powder? (yes I know it's predominiantly a powder board)

The Malalo is great in powder - fresh or chopped...
And handled well on groomed too...

I wouldnt want to lay out a big carve though...

Yes get one.

One day you'll be dead, and then won't you be glad you saved a few bucks by going without?

I buy one board and ride it till I kill it, or it dies a natural death. I'm not one of those primadona's that only takes their good board out when the conditions warrant. Had a 161 Salomon 400 for 3 years until it went limp -that was such a great board, 165 Sal Definition last year that was a great cruiser board but delamed, got replaced with 163 Sal EPA forcast which is great in the trees and bumps but just a touch sketchy on hard pack at high speed. There may be a defect in the binding holes (showing through on the base) so a new one may be in the cards again this year.

If you need a new board, or are unhappy with the ones you got, buy a new one. But if your satisfied with the boards you got for the conditions you usually ride in, then save the $$ for next year's pass.
