BP oil spill reaches Killington....

Post by tt431 »

Not really, but this weekend I saw this orange/brown substance that looks like oil. The picture was taken in the snowshed slope about 200 feet down from the compressor farm. This is not the first time I see this, I remember seeing this other times in different parts of the mountain. Would this have any effect on our drinking water? Does anybody have any info about this?

That looks like algae. There are some areas where you see orange stains in the run off from rust in the iron ore. Fairly common in NE.

Could be from the compressors. I've seen some NASTY looking sh*t dumped out of them, and yeah it just goes right into the ground/streams on the mountain. Small price to pay for having the most extensive snow making system!

This is a good point. If you have ever worked with pneumatic systems, many have oil lubes in the compressors. This mixes with the water and air in the lines. When you bleed the lines it usually looks like this. It is somewhat like oil getting into your car coolant. Wouldn't want it in my drinking water.
