It's a marketing coup. Taking a long view, this is good for Killington and the region. There will probably be lots of fun side events, even if it does f' up the skiing for the weekend. I'm all in for a good party. You guys weren't seriously expecting a big cap-ex announcement? Get real. Be grateful we didn't get the Olympics, that would screw up the skiing for a month. Short term, it may mean some money spent for additional snow making capacity at Bear: more fan guns, etc.

Man, that's funny. "Big announcement". Oh my God, this is great stuff. Classic K-Marketing / Tommy Boy = Fail material. I wish I'd thought of this myself... it would have made great satire.
Awesome. PowdrKillington does it again. Kudos!

Doing the Dew, so much better than announcing a new lift for early late season, or that the interconnect will be built, so glad I drank the cool-aid last year........NOT.
Re: big announcement from K tomorrow at 9 am...
The safer bet is that much of the compressor and water capacity will be diverted to create huge piles of snow on two useless trails at Bear for two weeks in January. POWDR has never experienced a January thaw. I figure the main thing this does is make it far less likely that Fiddle will see any love.rogman wrote:Short term, it may mean some money spent for additional snow making capacity at Bear: more fan guns, etc.

yup that's part of the problem. during the event they need the fiddle as an alt route (for advanced skiers anyway) around the ol clusterfck. also can be one of the coldest weekends of the year when you'd be more likely to want to spend the morning in sunny warm bear.Geoff wrote:The safer bet is that much of the compressor and water capacity will be diverted to create huge piles of snow on two useless trails at Bear for two weeks in January. After 2 years and 2 big events staged at Bear where both had poor to no spectator visibility, no trailside spectator space, mediocre trade booths, trail closures a week or more in advance, and huge snowmaking where it did no good later on, I don't find much to get excited about. Standing around watching a jumbotron from 500 feet away just doesn't do it.
It gets the Killington name out there some in January.
I'd be more thrilled if they announced Switchback on tap at Mahagony Ridge.

Hahaha you bitch ass complainers must all hate this.
I hope they close down all of bear so you dick heads can't ski there for a week...though seeing how you people ski and dress, I don't think many of you belong over at bear skiing the bumps and harder stuff.
Stick to snowshed guys, don't want you do get in the way.

You know what? I'd like to modify my "over-hype and under-deliver" comment. Apparently to a lot of people this event is a big deal. To me it's of no real interest. I'll stop by for a few minutes I'm sure but it's not the kind of thing I'd get excited about. But if others do and it brings a lot of people here and fills things up for a weekend, that's good for the community and certainly nothing to complain about. Just hope it uses incremental snowmaking resources rather than transfers resources that would've been used elsewhere on the mountain.Bubba wrote:Nice to know, and certainly a good event to get, but "over-hype and under-deliver" is not a good way to go through life.

The Dew Tour Finals at each resort are usually done at night correct? Boy that is going to be some cold in January!
Will they actually have some sort of temporary stadium seating at the bottom? I can't recall from last years Dew Tours if they had seating or if it was just SRO.
