Thirsty Thursday at Pico

Post by shortski »

Hit Pico today with Tom Horracks, he'll of a skier, he showed me some short cuts to acces the goods without all the lifts turning. A little hiking but nothing even this old bastard couldn't handle. Had first tracks down several runs off the summit, don't know the trail names but there was pleanty of powder to be found. Hit Birch Glades from the entrance on skiers left upper Pike, sweet soft pow, did a Superman face plant and made a big bomb crater. When I tried to get up I sunk up to my hip. Thankful I Didn't lose both skis because that would have been a big problem getting out.

Had a few beers and lunch, great deal, $3.50 Long Trail Pounders and a Tuna wrap that was to die for.

Non stop action for a couple of hours and a sighting of Shortski on long boards.

I think this was coming out of Birch Glade

So, did Tom have anything of interest to say? Will he resume posting on K-zone?

Nice! 44.7 MPH

Can't wait to get back out, but I have no idea when I'll be back in Vermont. It's going to be awhile!

Skied Pico myself this afternoon. Started out with a highspeed run down Expressway to get the legs warmed up then hit up Pipeline under the Outpost double a bunch of times. Skied VERY nicely. Headed over to the Summit Quad and nailed a few Upper Pike laps. It was a little icy at the top but really got beautiful towards the bottom. Back over to the outpost to pound my legs into submission some more on Pipeline. Rattled off a bunch of hot laps on there, and then one final run off the Golden Express to the top of Exhibition which had hero snow on it.

4pm. Beautiful day out there with awesome conditions.

Was face plant before or after Long Trail Pounders?

Yup, I was there too. Summit Glades, Upper Giant Killer, and Birch Glades were all nice, nice, nice.
It was the first time I skied Pico. I think I picked the right day.
One startling observation:
At the end of the day, the light doesn't go flat. The light is actually best at the end of the day. I guess Pico isn't blocked by any other mountain, the way K is.

some of the trails have more western exposure . and some of the trails , the runouts at least, hold light longer.

plenty of flat light to go around though.

super awesome day out there. love PICO
