Expect Crowds

Post by jbkmart »

The traffic headed toward Vermont on Rt 91 N was as heavy as I've ever seen it tonight. Yikes.
Couple that with the amount of people already on the mountain today, and.....

Yup, the traffic on the hill today was maybe a 3rd more than a normal Friday. Don't forget the big cities have just had a major dump, Boston, Hartford, NY City 13-20".. It's the old if there's snow in my back yard it must be really good up in VT. (And it has been the best of conditions for the past two months, well maybe from Christmas.)

Was at okemo for son's race today. Was absolutely amazed at the huge number of people everywhere. On the hill, in lift lines, in the lodges, and traffic jam on the way home. I'm not sure if that is typical for okemo but it is nothing like anything i've seen here for years. When leaving we all commented - thank god killington doesn't have crowds like that......anymore.

Actually, today it was quite crowded at K too. They were allowing parking on the access road since the lots were all full. I was out there from 8:00 AM and could not believe the crowds at Bear at the early hour. Guess those folks that did not come up last weekend made it up this weekend.

I'm guessing the lack of any playoff games this weekend also had a little contribution to the crowd factor.
The Skyepeak Express line was stupid crowded late afternoon.

No football... great snow... classes canceled for most of the end of the week in lots of places in Jersey, NY, southern New England... I'd have to imagine that all of Vermont saw huge crowds this weekend.

Just in time for the Dew Tour!

Was working a race course on Needles Eye all day. Early morning seemed to have lots of traffic passing, and also when i was in the K1 lodge. By 1:30 the K1 gondi and all the chairs were MT. Superstar is still under the guns and snow fell for most of the day. Very little accumulations, but it adds up. Looks to be a great week, with snow in the forcast. OH, Winter is back with a vengeance as temps will go down tonight.
