On my second run last Sunday I broke the top buckle on my Salomon Ghost boots, and of course none of the Killington area Salomon dealers had a replacement in stock. I luckily have a friend in the industry that was having one shipped to me ASAP, however with the bad weather who knows if fedex/ups will get it to me by Friday night. If it does not come in time I will have to rent some boots for the weekend (its either that or not ski... and well that's not an option!).

So which shop on in the Killington area or en route from Boston to Killington would be the best bet for rental boots? I am used to skiing the ghost which is a 130 flex boot... I don't want to be stuck in a boot that does not really fit my oddly shaped feet AND is a 50 flex piece of junk. I would prefer Salomon as the instep and heel pockets in general fit my foot the best from them. I would also be open to renting an AT boot as I have dukes and may be doing some skinning this weekend.

Ghost have an oversize powerstrap? Your boot sans buckle with a big strap very tight may be a better option. Or pick up an extra powerstrap and wrap it at the buckle location.

The ghost is a two buckle boot with an over sized power strap. The buckles are over sized as well so not just any buckle can be put in its place unless you replace the serrated portion as well. The buckles are also riveted on so I want to minimize how many holes are drilled in the boot by only replacing it once.

I skied down with just the power strap right after it broke and it was not enough. I could maybe pick up a booster strap or two and use them to secure the area where the buckle had been? Who knows if that would be stiff enough however.

I was reading an article recently (Powder maybe) where a pro skier (Eric Hjorleifson maybe) frankenbooted 7 boots together to make his ideal AT boot. One of the items was the upper Ghost buckle... Now I understand why. Thanks!

Ha - I would go through a lot of duct tape! I need to completely open my boots up after each run or my feet freeze... (and yes my boots fit, I just like them tight... they are ground in the all the right places, have foot beds, etc.)

It looks like my buckles will actually come in time... just got the tracking number and they will be delivered by 4:30pm tomorrow according to FedEx. Thank god, skiing on rental boots would have sucked!
