I know for sure there are some classic 80's and 90's ski movies you're forgetting. 8)

saw "Ski Patrol" on cable the other day... pretty weak... the farting dog named "dumpster" was a riot though.

the 13 segment film right? I have this at home. 2 helmet cam segments, crash sequence, steep sounds, a mogul comp. all time favorite. The Pink Flamingo by stump was pretty good too. but for ski movies, how can you beat Hot Dog? Cheese cheese cheese. Rudi and the chinese downhill.

Yep. The Blizzard of AAHHH's is the best ski movie ever made. It's finally out on DVD so I can retire my VHS tape copy from the 80's. I just bought the 4 DVD box set on Ebay a few minutes ago. Blizzard of AAHHH's, License to Thrill; Groove Requiem: In The Key Of Ski; P-Tex, Lies, and Duct Tape.

Hot Dog was kinda dirty. I had never seen it, and the DVD was at the ski house where we were staying. I was going to put it on and someone was like "uh, you might not want your 10 yr old kid watching this." When I watched it later I could see why!

Amazing how much skin movies in the 80s showed compared to now. I mean, barring porn flicks...is it just me or are movies (even PG 13 and R rated) much more "modest" now?

I think i got the name wrong. If i'm not mistaken it was the maltese flamingo. i lost the tape years ago, but it was the first one i ever owned. Mike hattrup is awesome in it.

I've been looking for Hot Dog on DVD but I've only ever seen it in full screen format.

Aren't they all basically the same? What has really changed in ski movies since the 80's? Bigger hucks, jibbing, snowboards, but its all the same thing. Every movie is gorgeous scenery, beautiful powder face shots, insane drops, cool music.

Blizzard of Aahhhs is remembered because it was ahead of its time, but it basically looks like Soul Purpose or Ride. Those will go the way of White Winter Heat, Beyond the Edge, Journey, Salad Days or High Life. Enjoyed at the time, remembered more for a link to something in your own life than for its cinematic impact.

That said, I watch every one I can. I even copy them in my own movie making hobby.

For me, its Hot Dog. "I had Sonny side up, Sonny side down, Sonny all ze way around."

I don't think it is available in widescreen. I read someone's review on amazon.com, and it sounds like full screen only. Of course, the review was from a year ago, but I can't imagine MGM is getting overrun with requests for this in widescreen.

side note - amazon.com is offering both Hot Dog and Aspen Extreme as a 2-pack for $21.95. DO NOT fall victim to this. If you watch Aspen Extreme, you will feel the need to gouge your eyes out immediately. If you DO choose to buy this movie, keep the receipt and watch it when you are EXTREMELY intoxicated. That way you won't remember it and can still return it. Just remember, if you watch it, that's 118 minutes of your life you can NEVER get back!
