Re: Want To Try To Get To House Friday Night
I have a ton of out of state property owner friends trying to get through but with out of state plates. A little problem which a Vermont plate would work better.
Also the work day's can be 24/7 or at least first light to dark.
A friend that lives behind Pizza Jerk say's to drive in daylight as the roads have moved a bunch so us that have memorized them could be in trouble.
Here is the most damage I've seen yet. Route 131 in Cavendish.

sight seers and rubber neckers should be run off the f'n road or busted like a drunk that is impaired for driving. I can't believe how many people are driving at 10 to 20 MPH below the speed limit so they can gawk at washouts, damaged homes and other sights. You want a tour take the bus. Otherwise drive the f'n car to where the hell you are going.

Part of the problem may be that Killington Resort as well as other businesses in Vermont are posting pictures of the trees changing colors on Facebook so people are probably coming up because of that as well.

I live here and I have green plates on my AWD vehicle. No one is more anxious than I am to go visit and help my friends in Killington and the surrounding area. But I won't do it! Stay home for another week and let them fix the roads while the weather is good. One more weekend away won't kill you, by then Route 4 should be open.
All the gapers that think they can get up Route 4 in Mendon are being detoured onto Park Lane and past my house. Some crazies insisted that they go on Route 4 to the White Mountains, they were unaware of the damage! Stay home and let the trucks roll, they are still working 7 days a week. The Army is a big presence here now, many many trucks per day are flying by loaded with crushed stone.
BTW - some of the leaves on my sugar maple turned red overnight!

Re: Want To Try To Get To House Friday Night
I happened to be chatting with a Killington constable a couple days ago, and he told me that Rt 4 from Killington to 89 was unofficially open to all traffic. Saturday was my first day off the island, I didn't come back until 9:30 or so that evening. After the Woodstock downtown the road was marked as closed, open to local traffic. It was a pretty big barricade, and there was a cop with his lights on less than a quarter mile down the road. He didn't stop me, though I do have those magical green plates.
Rt 4 Woodstock to Killington has a couple washouts on the edge of the road to be aware of. They are marked pretty well with orange cones, nonetheless you really do need to pay attention. I wouldn't want to be that jack@ss that needs a tow out of the Ottaquechee.

traffic on Rt 4 will be horrible for the next few weeks after its open, hopefully i'm wrong but i'm not an optimistic person

Re: Want To Try To Get To House Friday Night
Killington posted on Facebook that Rt. 4 from Mendon to Killington should be open sometime Friday afternoon. Exact time will be announced soon. Extremely good news and fast response. I'll have to call the guy in the white house in Mendon to see if he is getting a new bridge from his little island.

Re: Want To Try To Get To House Friday Night
Keep in mind that some of the flood-damaged areas are unofficially posted at extremely low speeds (e.g. Moretown and Pittsfield, both of which have 10 or 15 MPH signs posted). A big part of that reason is the amount of flood dirt left on the streets; as one sign in Moretown said, "Please go slow; SPEED = DUST." And even where the speed limit isn't posted low, driving 10 or 20 MPH below the speed limit on some of the damaged roads is a damn good idea—there's still a lot of damage that's not marked particularly well.Dr. NO wrote:sight seers and rubber neckers should be run off the f'n road or busted like a drunk that is impaired for driving. How's E. Mountain Rd? I was wondering if its possible to get to Rim Rd (just at the Great Eastern Bridge). If so, anyone know if Rim Rd. is passable? Thanks!
Re: Want To Try To Get To House Friday Night
10 mph in Ludlow is stupid. 35 in a 50 zone with no damage or construction is stupid. If people want to gawk at the scenery take a bus or just stop the car. You get pulled over for driving like that for suspicion of drinking so why don't old people (I know, I'm an old people now) don't get pulled over? I got the same putz here in CT on the coast between Guilford and Westbrook. Get them off the road.kbroderick wrote:Keep in mind that some of the flood-damaged areas are unofficially posted at extremely low speeds (e.g. Moretown and Pittsfield, both of which have 10 or 15 MPH signs posted).
