I have been there. It is indeed, far and away, the best and most gnarly ski resort in the eastern United States, if not the whole country, maybe the world. Sunday River is the King. Long Live the King!!!! They even got a Chondola. Greatest lift ever invented. Viva la Sunday River!!!

Rogman, How many GPM can Killington deliver?
Their web site says 720000 gallons an hour, which would be 12000 gallons a minute. Normally, I'd be skeptical of a number like that, but I've found the current regime to be so conservative about those sorts of claims, I'm inclined to believe it. Regardless, I very much doubt K has yet maxed out on water, and they are still air limited. If this is a contest, I'd be far more interested in how much water K is pumping versus Sunday River. It may well be that in these air limited conditions, Sunday River has an edge, and is able to use more water as a result. Water is the metric that matters.

Even so, I have no problem with SR's promoting the number of guns, but it should be seen as that, and nothing more, a cheesy stunt. I've been very impressed with the job Killington's done so far. I thought having 3 types of guns the length of Rime was impressive: K3000's, Ratnik stands, and the portable Low E's. They were clearly adjusting to the temps, and using the best equipment for the conditions at any given point. Killington seem to be using more and more of the Ratniks, and less of the K3000's. They may doing a better job at marginal temps than expected.

All this thread proves is that SR knows how to use social media to drive traditional PR. Odds are Mr Noyes talked about that stat on air, not just on twitter. Give your media quick and useful facts that are relevant to their job and they'll feature them. Nothing new about that. Some mountains are better than others at this based upon who holds the keys to the twitter accounts. It's a mainstream media relations tool for those that want it to be.
Just the facts ma'am.

A lot of people here seem insecure whenever any other mountain is mentioned on this board. I don't understand why it always has to be a competition. Every mountain has its negatives and positives - and its not all sunshine and lollipops at Killington - other mountains have plenty to offer skiers of all abilities. If you can't have fun skiing another mountain because of your hardon for Killington, then you got some serious personality deficiencies.

Nothing could be further from the truth. It's just a matter of setting the record straight and pointing out the ares and the wannabes.

Well it is called KillingtonZone, after all. Did you guys get lost and think you were on AlpineZone?

Most of us are here because we love Killington. Some of us would defend K to the death. Not Junior though, he's one of them Sunday River folks.

Geez people, let it go. The majority of this tread is tongue in cheek (or as HD would say tmb) humor. Whoopie, they got over 300 guns going at once. And when the water runs out, they got ziltch.

BTW, I heard SR allowed their ski teams to actually set GATES up this past weekend and have been on the mountain for 2 weeks already, while K blacked out coaches and stopped weekend programs.
