Kid falls from lift at Mount Snow

Post by Slap Shot »

Last Sunday (Mar 13) at around 10:30am I was in line at the Tumbleweed triple when someone ran over and yelled, "Someone get ski patrol, a kid just fell off the lift!"

A kid fell off the Seasons double lift located in the adjoining beginners area about 20 yards from its loading area, which is about a 15 foot drop. I haven't heard anything more about it, so hopefully the kid is ok.

I just so happened to be Mt. Snow close to this time last year and witnessed a child fall from the lift ... his mother was on the chair at the time and had to ride up and ski down ... what a parental nightmare!

I was there on sunday. I didnt hear about that episode. I was on the sunbrook4 around 10am and it stopped for 10 min. At the top the ski patrol was putting someone into a sled, with their leg isolated. Someone said that the person fell whilst getting off.

Bad things

Post by Slap Shot »

About the same time (10am) I was riding the Summit Express quad with ski patrollers and they got a radio call about someone who got hurt really bad on the upper part of Deer Run. It seems to me that Deer Run (which should be called "Overrun") and the trails below it are the most crowded on the mountain.

The promo thing about the kids pay their age made the place look like Mountain Creek. To make it worse, the lines got to be pretty long when the Summit Express quad closed for about 20 minutes (around 11am) after two chairs collided at the bottom. So I went to the Canyon triple and that one stopped too. So I took Ego Alley which was about a five minute wait, and when I boarded the lift the Summit Express started running again.

For the very first time, I decided to checkout Ripcord, the only double diamond on the mountain. Since it was sheet ice between the bumps and the trail is steep, I went through Second Thoughts... which is a bail trail. It's labeled blue, but it should be a single black. It's really narrow, and to the left, an intermediate could fall into The Plunge... a double black glades trail that's heavily wooded and steep.

The rest of the day I kept riding Exhibition, for the soft small bumps are fun to play in, and the trail is usually pretty empty.

I don't take the Sunbrook lift anymore because it's too slow and it stops a lot. The landing is also kind of steep for lower intermediate snowboarders, which could lead to injuries. Instead, if I'm there I'll take Beartrap and either do the Beartrap bump run, or do Nitro's bumps at Carinthia or ride Mine Shaft and take the greens to the Main Base.

I like watching the people doing the jumps at Inferno, for they get like three to four seconds of air time, and some of their tricks are pretty sick. Like once I saw a skier do a 720 barrel roll with the skies crossed.

I left at 2pm because I dreaded being stuck in the traffic after 4. I also didn't want to be driving down I91 with all the extra company coming down from the other mountains.

Anyway, I had a nice day.

The bumps at the bottom of Nitro were pretty nice on Sunday. Wish I could say the same for my technique!

There were some sick tricks being done at the bottom of Inferno. I didn't hear of any of the mishaps you speak of, but the "Kids pay their age day" made for some tough going. I couldn't figure out why there were so many kids on the mountain who didn't know what the hell they were doing. It was pretty crazy.

All in all a great wekend though...

I saw a kid, maybe 7 years old fall off of the crossover chair at needles just before the first tower. amazingly, she just stood up, picked up her skis, and walked back to the lift!

Kids seem to be able to bounce back a lot faster than adults.

I rode up a lift and a guy was telling me that the lady next to him was saying that her daughter twisted her knee the day before, so they iced it up and she could barely stand on it the morning, so when she tried to get off at the top (I think the carinthia lift) she just fell over in pain. I was on that lift and was stuck under a tower which was leaking on me the hole time. How the mother could let her daughter who could barely stand try and ski amazes me. The crowds were carzy, but the only thing Mt snow has that is really good is there tree's, which were amazing on sunday. I spent most of the day in there so the crowds didnt affect me. No line on the summit local, and the slow speed is great for your legs with all those tree runs.
