I love ragged. But I grew up at killington. You guys can bash me all you want but killingtons ratings drop every season. Huge resorts are popping up all around. (Jay peak, Stowe, Okemo) Ragged, Loon and waterville have huge plans for the next few years. If killington doesn't keep up, they wont be the star of new england anymore and drop even more. If you guys don't see this and how bad some of killingtons areas are, then your clueless.

I see that Killington has put in a new HSQ, is finally using the snowmaking properly, is rebuilding the worst lodge on the mountain that was literally falling apart and an eyesore on the Peak, and they appear to be planning to put in another HS lift and replace the SRT within the next couple years.

I'm not sure what planet you come from, but while I've disagreed with management decisions plenty (mostly under Nyberg, no complaints about Mike thus far), imagining that they're going to make capital investments even faster than that, is pretty ridiculous.

Thanks for the heads up. I had no idea. Kzone's blind love for all things Killington has had me deluded for years, because you know, I don't think I've ever seen any criticism of Killington or even POWDR on this board. This is truly a first.[/sarc].

I must confess, your choice of resorts to compare Killington to is curious. While Jay and Stowe are certainly worthy, WTF is up with the rest?
Okemo: They do boring well.
Ragged: Are they even solvent this year?
Loon: Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded.
Waterville: After they double their size, it'll still be small.

Move along troll, nothing to see here...

"Loon: Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded. " LOL, this sounds like something I would say ! But ya, the crowds are all the college kids from all the area schools.

Killington stopped being the star of New England about 10 years ago.

Are you people serious. Yes the summit lodge is a great improvement, but look at all the other lodges. there crap. The whole base area is a mess and if you haven' t noticed, but look at the ratings.

Loon has announced a whole new hotel and expansion on south peak. Ragged mountain is adding a whole new peak(pineacle), old candaia road area and a lower mountain area. Making it the third largest ski resort in the state. Along with that for next year, a new spear mountain express quad, base lodge renovation(even though they don't need it) and yet again, more trails with automatic snow making systems. In the next few years, major village area with retail and restruants, a new mountain coaster for spring 2013 and mountain side housing. Waterville is connecting the main mountain with the two front peaks so you can ski to the village in the next couple of years making that the fifth largest in the state. You guys would know this if you ventured a little outside of killington.

All this time I thought Killington's biggest competition came from places like Stratton, Sunday River and Sugarbush. Who knew it was little Ragged Mountain that K should be most afraid of?

Look it up and see how much there growing. It's really not a small mountain compared to black, cranmore and crotched etc.
