100 day season and counting
Sunday was the 100th day Killington was open for skiing. Need to go deep into May to hit 200 days. 10 feet of snow so far with hopefully at least 10 more coming our way this year. Lots of positives with Mike's first year at the helm. Looking forward to snowy finish to the season and the return of all the spring festivities.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine.

Yes, drove up from NYC & stopped at Stratton on my way north. 1st run wham. Was supposed to ski till Fri. I'm now on crutches. I drove all the way home with a broken right ankle, lol.jimmywilson69 wrote:While Skiing?steamboat1 wrote:Hope I'm able to enjoy this spring. Broke my ankle & tweeked my knee yesterday. "Well I ducked a rope today at Stratton. Drove up early this morning from NYC. First run up on American Express I go to traverse over to the Ursa chair. I usually like taking the lower traverse by the fixed grip chair. Got there & they had it roped off & I wasn't climbing back up to the upper traverse or skiing back down to the bottom to start over. Looked down the trail & it looked fine, plenty of snow & looked groomed. It's only a straight run out over to Ursa but you need to gain speed to make it without having to walk. Pointed them straight & went for the chair. It happened so fast I'm not even sure what happened myself but I hit some kind of compression & next thing I know both skis popped off & I'm flying forward at a fairly high speed & did a face plant, got cut up a little & was bleeding which I didn't realize till I got down. Got up & my one leg wasn't feeling to good. I was able to gather my stuff which was all over. One ski & pole were just off the trail ready to go down into a stream but I managed to get them. Then I skied down to the bottom tentatively with no problems but still felt something wasn't right with my one leg. Took off my ski's to go in the lodge to clean my goggles which were filled with snow & I could hardly walk with a lot of pain. This was supposed to be the start of 4 days in a row skiing around VT.. Realized that no way was I going to be able to ski the rest of the week so I hoppled painfully to my car & drove back to NYC. Amazing I was able to drive because it was my right leg that I hurt. Not much of a problem most of the way because it was cruise control for most of the trip. Had some problems braking with stop & go traffic in the city but I made it home. Anyway my ankle is swollen like a balloon, shin doesn't feel to Kosher & I think I tweeked my knee. See how I feel in the morning otherwise it's a trip to the ER. Still can barely walk with a lot of pain. Advil's helping with the pain but I might not be able to sleep tonight. Hope I'm not finished for the season.
Guess I found out why the trail was closed."
Woke up this morning & the pain was worse than yesterday. The numbness you get when you 1st injure yourself was gone & the only thing left was the pain. Fortunately I have a friend that's a doctor that specializes in sports medicine & he confirmed the ankle is broken. Couldn't find anything wrong with my knee but it still hurts. I'm wearing a boot over the ankle & getting around with the help of crutches. This sucks.
And yes RustyK it counts as a day. If someone asked me if I skied Stratton this year I can truthfully answer yes
Re: 100 day season and counting
Wow that sucks. Sorry and get well soon !
Re: 100 day season and counting
If you are concerned about number of runs... Ask: "how many runs?" A day counts if you slide on snow regardless of the number of runs.Atomic1 wrote:..............RustyK wrote:How many runs counts for ONE day?

Sorry you're down, the conditions seem to be strangely dangerous in some spots as of late. Try regular helpings of this elixir:steamboat1 wrote:Hope I'm able to enjoy this spring. Broke my ankle & tweeked my knee yesterday. I'm out for awhile.

Said to bestow amazing recuperative powers.

That sucks - I did the same thing many years ago on a very thinly covered trail that looked ok - high speed over 2 inches of snow with gravel underneath - got all cut up but didn't break anything.steamboat1 wrote:Hope I'm able to enjoy this spring. Hang in there and hopefully you'll get back on in end of April.
Sometimes the rope is up for a reason - sometimes its not.
