This may be the best season pass out there for New Yorkers, especially those who live in the city and its suburbs and the lower Hudson valley. Adding Belleayre makes it really attractive to people in nyc/westchester because they can day trip there and then hit Gore or Whiteface for overnighters.
Good for ORDA! Good for skiing!

Didn't want to start a new thread.... Thinking of going up to Hunter or Belleayre soon with my son for a day trip (2 hours from us). I've never been to either. Is one better than the other?

Hunter has more challenging stuff but you're better off skiing there midweek than on a weekend as it gets pretty crowded on the weekends.Jim wrote:Didn't want to start a new thread.... Yes to what Ty said. Hunter is more challenging. IMO it has some of the most challenging terrain south of K.tyrolean_skier wrote:Hunter has more challenging stuff but you're better off skiing there midweek than on a weekend as it gets pretty crowded on the weekends.Jim wrote:Didn't want to start a new thread.... But try limiting skiing weekends there to never.
Weekdays on the other hand are great. It is often a ghost town. And they just opened a new area, "Hunter North", including a new six pack.
All that said, I also like Belleayre as a change of pace. It is a very pretty mountain with more varied terrain than it gets credit for. And they just put a top to bottom Gondola in last season, the "Catskill Thunder", which is their first TTB lift.
I do the "Empire" discount card. I do the first ("free") day at Gore (or if I ever get my ass back up to Whiteface), and then weekdays at Belleayre are really cheap with the 50% discount.

When you get enough natural snow, Plattekill is also a lot of fun.

Platty is the best mountain (snow willing) in the Cats. A bit farther drive but worth it.
