Re: Stowe upgrades
Buddy from up there called today and confirmed that's all going in at Spruce where they have the room.
He also confirmed that none of the 'woods goods' are worth the trip. They got 2-3" today with BIG Wind.

Love the old one free ride up unwritten policy. They stopped grooming Snuffy’s and Sterling Pond back in the mid 90’s after Stowe had a groomer crack thru the ice. Buddy of mine who was the Smuggs nighttime snowmaking boss said the groomer operator was out of the cab taking a green smoke break when the machine broke thru. The hydraulic lines were broken dragging the groomer out of the ice resulting in an oil spill in Vermont’s highest pond. National Forest Service pulled permission to groom the trail afterward and being able enjoy both resorts on the same day is now history.steamboat1 wrote:I haven't done that traverse in over 40 years. You used to be able to buy single ride coupons inexpensively at Stowe & then ski into Madonna & buy a lift ticket. Today it's cost prohibitive to buy a ticket for both areas for the same day.brownman wrote:One of my favorite traverses is crossing that pond...either way.
Spruce lifties used to be very accommodating for us parking at Spruce, but there to ski Birthday bowls and Madonna![]()

You can get environmental friendly oils to replace the standard stuff.Guy in Shorts wrote:Love the old one free ride up unwritten policy. Re: Stowe upgrades
Meanwhile Stowe is building 2 new buildings, restaurants & retail, underground parking, outdoor ice skating, zip line, etc. just to freshen up their adventure center. What's K doing? Oh that's right they closed their adventure center at Pico last year.

Yeah, years ago , on a powder day,my smuggs ski instructor friend took me over that pond. What a trail. The views to die for. Her husband picked us up at Stwe and brought us back to smuggs. Amazing. After that, skied the only triple black diamond trail in vt. At smuggs.. got the heart pumping.adrenaline flow to the Max..

Re: Stowe upgrades
Re: the distance from Boston. Stowe ends up being about 45 minutes longer of a ride than K from Boston. Not too bad, but only doable as a daytrip when you take the bus as K is enough of a stretch for a daytrip by car as it is. Of course, they cater to a high end demographic as the bus or a ski club membership appreciation day is the only way to get a reasonably priced day in at Stowe.
Speaking of Stowe, if you're looking for a bargain, there's a bus operation called Nacski that goes to Stowe at $77 a head; $10 off using code HAXNS in case if you're within an hour radius of Boston or so and you want to get a cheap day in at Stowe (or anywhere else they run to. https://www.nacski.com/mr/default.aspx?r=ma-bos" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Is that their money or is it more of the Green Card Thru Investment Program?skibumetteone wrote:Just announced. Millions of $s being put into Stowe. Ice skating rink, and underground parking, will be built there. Lots more improvements to be announced.
EB5 visa.
The process was greatly shortened in 2011and now just about anyone who invests can get one.

Although they certainly could qualify.
From the article: "Between the new construction and expanded and new programs, the project could add lots of jobs. Already, officials say, Spruce Peak expansion has generated 800 jobs, 200 of which are full-time with benefits."

But how many of those jobs go to the locals? Or does this program benefit South Americans and Jamaicans?steamboat1 wrote:No EB-5 money involved.SnoBrdr wrote:Is that their money or is it more of the Green Card Thru Investment Program?skibumetteone wrote:Just announced. Re: Stowe upgrades
Where does it say EB 5 money is involved? I'd think after the massive build out of Spruce over the past 10 years it would have been mentioned, it hasn't. $8+ million in snow making improvements over the past 2 years doesn't create permanent jobs therefore no EB 5 money. Everyone knows where Jay, Sugarbush & others got their money from, why no mention of Stowe? This project is a mere bag of shells for the Mount Mansfield Corp.SnoBrdr wrote:steamboat1 wrote:No EB-5 money involved.SnoBrdr wrote:Is that their money or is it more of the Green Card Thru Investment Program?skibumetteone wrote:Just announced.
