addressing moose's sacrificing some trails for the build on supe ... can only speak for us but having those runs added to our ski experience. i might have traded the fiddle for lower o but that another story. as a late season proponent, hard for me to say this, but don't know how you can have 3 or 4 runs "lay fallow" for the sake of extending the season on one run and explain that to the general public.

again kudos to mike & jeff for a great season.
I think last year shows June is possible, had more snow been blown in the thin spots they would have made it. Late season endurance isn't about natural snowfall of 200, 250, or even 350", it's about the depth and resiliency of the man made. Or to put it another way, man made goes down very dense. An inch of hardpack is worth a foot of regular snow and 2 feet of blower. Mass and compaction of the snowpack is what counts. You can replace a missing 100" of natural with a foot of man made. Last year with about 15 feet of man made on the spine, it was the equivilent of about 1,800 inches of natural. I might be off slightly, but my point is that 250" of annual snowfall pales to what gets blown on Superstar every year. Spring temps, r*in and fog are a far greater factor.

skiadkt has an interesting opinion in this as he is both a spring skier and a Vertigo/Fiddle/Ovation lover. As much as he likes spring bumps, he finds it hard to give up winter terrain in exchange for spring bumps. It illustrates the difficult balancing act management has in making operational decisions.

So skiadkt, what's the earliest closing date you could live with on just Supe in order to keep your man made favorites in play the rest of the season in a lean year?

Yeah, and telling someone he ought to die is constructive? Well, in some cases yes, but a little over the top here.

Did K use the new hydrants on the bottom of Supe skiers right they installed over the summer? If they did it might help curtail the formation of the "S" in that area.

Then next time call for my ban from Kzone as opposed to my death. I assume - applying the principle of charity - that what you really want is banning me from Kzon so that you don't have to hear my opinion again rather than my actual death. But the wording of your post suggested the latter, which should always be off limits no matter how much you dislike my internet persona.

my point about the 350" was more about if we get that much snow and barring a ton of thaws, they might be able to free up snowmaking resources to build the glacier on supe. in addition to having a rock solid deep base, a key to going late is a cool spring (obviously). for example during the historic '96-97 season (june 22 close), not that it necessarily has anything to do with k, but mt washington received a record 96" of snow for the month with a temp of 7 degrees below normal. i know k did receive some snow that month as well. that's gotta help.

this season guess i could have also given up dreammaker but it is a difficult balancing act for management. during '11/12 though i rarely ski the run, thought it was an embarrassment that double dipper had no snow.

hard to say about the closing date. maybe mid-may is the earliest they should ever close, but do think every effort should be made to be last to close since i think that's an important part of the killington "brand."

Yep, or.... it could be that Big Bob was rendered speechless by Weather G-d's post that I quoted?

I do know that Stormy has SL on ignore, so I quoted it so Stormy would not miss it. Priceless posts like that one should be seen by all, especially the part about him being a G-d and all.

By the time they decided to use them, they were buried. I saw snowmakers heads below the snow level when they were digging them out. They need 15' tall hydrants on that side.

Can you please just spell out GOD just once? Please? Do you also refuse to walk under ladders and do you take a shower after you see a black cat?

Perhaps you just have a problem with calling me god. What about Mike S? You gush all over him...perhaps you pay homage to him as if he were a gOd. Can you at least call him Mike S, GOD of KTon? Pretty please. Just spell it...G-O-D. It won't harm you. I promise. I'm a God, after all. All Hail Mike S, God of Kton. Say it. We already know you believe it.
