Also, the chair is running at 8:00 am this morning (Thursday). What's up with that?

Needed to get in a couple early morning runs so they fired up the lift to accommodate. Thanks Killington.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine.

Hopefully they're fixing it so it does not break again this weekend.

Re: The "S" is forming
Superstar took a big hit from the warm weather Tuesday-Wednesday. Most around here said they would be surprised if the hill makes it past Sunday this weekend. Get it...

Re: The "S" is forming
It always amazes me that with the amount of snow they make on top of the headwall (excuse me Humpty) it's usually the first to melt out.

Re: The "S" is forming
sadly i agree.
gotta wonder : will walking be necessary as soon as saturday??
NOAA calling for 1-2" tomorrow nite :-/
it does look like we'll have chances for sun both saturday and sunday.
a shame that ski areas don't employ tarps and drainage systems on their late season trails..

Hmmmm. Wouldn't controllable Ice9 be nice in a ski resort! (Kurt Vonnegut reference for anyone who missed it.....)

Re: The "S" is forming
haha controllable would be counter to its very nature!
ski gear would have to have a much more hazmat-suit nature...
(loved cat's cradle and galapogos. as with ski seasons i felt sad when i reached the end of those books...you did remind me of something else i wanna do during the off-season, thanks)

Re: The "S" is forming
Say the mountain spends $150K to blow snow on SS and it lasts 6 months. If you covered most of it with tarps and had a drainage plan so you got another 3 weeks out of the snow I'd think it would be worth it. Killington has been an innovator over the years in the industry. Maybe it would be worth it to experiment and see what happens. A tarp with one side made of a reflective surface and maybe a little insulation. Would make June easily.buckethead wrote:a shame that ski areas don't employ tarps and drainage systems on their late season trails..

Re: The "S" is forming
actually jiminy peak tried the tarp idea in the early 80's on a bunny slope. they quickly abandoned it. the size of the tarps and the manpower required to cover and then uncover any significant trail would be enormous.

Retractable dome with cooling system for all year round skiing. Power it with solar panels on the sides. Get EB5 money to pay for it. It would be a huge summer tourist attraction.
