Nastar or self timed race course

So. I have an 8 year old who I would love to challenge to a race around gates just for fun. Does anyone know if Killington has plans to include something like a Nastar pay per run course for the future?

This is all a plot to get my little guy into racing so I have an excuse to join KSC.

So much opportunity for sarcasm...

Killington will make snow on the Julio exit before they set up a public race course.

KSC won't take your little guy as he'll be too old to join the program next year and he'll be "behind on his skills development"

Don't use your son as a reason to join KSC. There are already too many parents living vicariously through their kids there.

And in the spirit of being too nice around here... Fcuk you.

Edit: But in all seriousness, I'd be a fan and regular user of such a course if K ever did it.

Ski Bum race was the best alternative once they sacrificed Recreational Racing at Bear.
That was loads of fun while it lasted. I doubt it moved the needle on revenue.

Look into the programs at ksc/kms, at 9 he should be fine.

It would be really fun if Killington and Pico had such a course... charge $1 / run to be timed or something like that.

Absolutely correct. KSC/KMS has great programs for kids of that age.

Not sure why Spanky has a beef with them, but don't let one parents bad experience (or so it seems) deter you from such a great ski club and their programs. My kids are well above where they would have been without KMS. As a parent, I could only get them so far skills wise. KMS has done a great job coaching and teaching them the skills they will have for a lifetime.

There are competitive and non-competitive programs, both freestyle (many disciplines) and alpine. Check them out. There are a few parents on this board who have kids in the KMS/KSC programs.

Feel free to pm me if you want any further info. These are top notch programs that really cater to the kids and their specific skill levels. Maybe stop by the club and check it out. Be glad to show you around and introduce you to the right people for you and yours.

Thanks, junior. We're up most weekends and would definitely like to take you up on a tour. I was only joking about coming up with an excuse to join. It's more in the spirit of creating a group of like minded VT friends for my son and us.

It seems like there's some real interest in a basic pay per run modified GS course for the rest of us. Hopefully something will come of it.

If Killington looks at public gates as a revenue source, it will stay buried. If they look at it as another form of entertainment like parks, pipes, 4241, glades and mountain events then it can be a source of positive buzz, generate some lift ticket sales, and all around make Killington the go-to place no matter what you need.

The real challenge is to find enough proper square footage that isn't already snapped up by KMS, KSC, colleges, corporations, independent ski clubs. Then assign or hire some qualified help to set courses and timing equipment. A buck a run would pay the labor costs plus more. Have it on weekends only when 98% of the interested skiers would be able to show up. And it has to be done with published dates that do not get dropped last minute (except for weather or lack of snow).

The former recreational race course at Bear is still ideal, but seems to be relegated to offload from Dreamaker or for stockpiling snow.

How about this: When the proposed changes to Highline get finished and training & racing goes on the new trail, that should free up a lot of room on lower Highline to put up public gates on weekends. Does not have to be NASTAR sanctioned, although it would make it a better attraction.

Odd how POWDR sponsored and hosted NASTAR and NASTAR finals for years then suddenly dropped them. If they were the home of this race circuit why would they not want their satellite areas run these events?
