K-Zone Tropical Fish

Post by freeski »

There are many health advantages to keeping fish in your house. These include butt are not limited to slowing the heart rate, adding moisture to the air and becoming less stabby.

- Right now I have a 15 gallon column tank with LED lights.
- Two green corey catfish, 4 neon tetras and two female pregnant guppies.

The excitement never ends. As a yout I lived close enough to the ocean I had lobsters and starfish.

In the 80's I had a Pet Pickrrel Pete in a 55 gallon behind a garage. In the 70's hornpout in an old bathtub in the woods.

Doctor offices and dentites have them so you will write large checks.

I hope the mountain will weigh in on this.

Also, you can grow plants and snails.

I used to be really into keeping Fish tanks.

At one time I had a 55, a 30, and a 10.

I initially got the 55 to keep 4 Pirahanas in. They were cool when they were small once they got older they wouldn't eat with the lights on or during the day. When they were younger they'd devour those gold fish like they were candy.

I then switched to keeping different types of Cichlids. I had African in the 55 and South American in the 30.

I eventually got too lazy and grew tired of keeping the tanks.

Neat, ya it's a ton of work. I had a clown knife which has to eat live fish. The problem is if you don't keep up with it, it's a problem. The Tech with lights and filters have come a long way. Had to relearn just to get guppies going.

yeah I bet. I was using an underdrain and a top filter when I last had a setup, which has to have been a decade ago.

I've had aquariums most of my life. My last set up was a 120 reef aquarium with a 55gal sump, 140lbs live rock, 500W HQI and Actinics, skimmers, reactors, chillers, all kinds of Sps and Lps corals and about a dozen fish. All the bells and whistles. In 2007, my tank was rated 3rd in the state on VT by the reefkeepers of VT club (which has now disbanded), not that that means much because there are so many nicer ones out there that weren't part of the club.
Then on Feb 23, 2018, my house caught fire because of salt creep that got into a where a powerhead cord plugged into a extension and shorted out. This was plugged into to a surge protector too btw.
Now I'm all set with aquariums for a bit. Whenever I do miss it, I'll go to Liquid Art and watch their tank.

Damn Ozzy... Sorry to hear about your home. Sounded like a sick tank though. I was never brave enough to try salt water.

Sorry to hear that Ozzy. Salt creep can be such a bitch. I have a 90 gallon salt tank and am always cleaning that stuff off. I switched my tank outlets over to a GFCI line last year for fear of shock and possible fires. Not entirely sure that's enough prevention for fire though.

Not sure what you guys are talking about butt yes sorry about the fire. Ozzy you seem to be a very nurturing person.

My freshwater fish are easy to care for and once you get it set up a very cheap hobby. I bread Pearl Gouramis in a 55 gallon. I had slate rock I picked up from the beach and made "Fish Hinge".

Once you get set up it's a cheap hobby butt yea if something goes wrong it's a pain to clean. You really need two aquariums. The LED's are awesome. Never knew plants could grow so fast. My dog attacks the fish. I'll get a picture up once I get it presentable. I have two clam shells I got from last time I bought stuffed clams.

The aquarium moved from an in wall display in my home office which became my sons room when he was born to a custom stand in our living room. When I wired originally, I used GCFI's. I used those same GCFI when I moved the aquarium. They didn't trip. The breaker also didn't trip. It half tripped, but was still hot when the FD arrived.
Like most major malfunctions, there was a series of small mistakes which led to this. Like the smoke detector, which was functioning, just in a poor location that didn't go off. I woke up because of the smoke smell.
In the end it was the first 48hrs that sucked most, but after being displaced for 2 1/2 weeks wasn't so bad. Our insurance co put us up at the grand midweek and pico condos on the weekends. My kids loved having breakfast buffet at the grand and a pool at their fingertips everyday. Not a bad end to the story which could of ended much, much worse.
My son says he wants a clownfish/anemonefish display. Will probably end up doing a 10 or 20 gal setup against my better judgment as the smaller the volume, the harder, chemically speaking, it is to keep for the most part.

GFCI's need to be exercised periodically, push the red button a few times.

Yea, that is horrible. However, if you have a fire it's nice to have the insurance behind you to stay at the Grand and Pico.
I wanted to put one in the wall in my old basement ( cause that's where my mom made me stay). Glad you recovered gracefully.

Trouble at the HeartBreak Hotel.

Last night I lost one of the 4 Neon Tetras. I had to move the Guppies into a 1 gallon glass jar.
The problem was tail nipping. The catfish are okay. I need to accept the tank is not in a good location and stop changing the water. I have some lime stone pellets Butt, maybe not enough to counter the native granite stone.

At this point it's too early to tell what will happen next.
