Outlook for the upcoming holidays....

Post by KingsFourMan »

If the long range weather forecast holds for consistently cold temperatures starting Monday, Killington will have a solid week and half to two weeks to recover from the weather washouts of the past two weekends. There's a shot or two at some natural as well. It sounds like a lot of the snowmaking upgrades these days are in large part geared toward recovering quickly from these kinds of weather events. We should see Killington's snowmaking system in full force once the temps drop again on Monday. It was pretty impressive how quickly they recovered from these types of weather events last year and they should have plenty of time between now and the Holiday rush to get the mountain back in shape. We'll see.

Ya Mann, but are there enough Jamaicans in VT to run all those snow guns?

There are two phases for the second half of December:

Phase 1, Dec 8th to 23rd: Cold weather with panic stricken snowmaking and some years a teaser of several snowfalls to really powder up the surface. Lucy has just set the football on the ground so Charlie Brown can kick it.

Phase 2, Dec 24th to Jan 2: At least one if not two thaw-freeze r*in events that turn the surface to porcelain just in time for Santa. 4 days of Christmas Cookies (not the good kind) follow. Knee deep blower arrives Jan 6th.

All the holiday crowd needs to do is show up. We need a few days of 15,000 skiers to pay for the new lodge.

If we do any skiing at all over the Holidays it will be at Pico, looking forward to seeing what the new snowmaking upgrades over there can do.

Shaping up to be a good Holiday season for the mountain, amazing how fast they can recover especially when you throw in a few inches of natural snow. Hope the place is mobbed. Gotta hit at least 2 out of 3 of the critical Christmas/New Years, MLK, and Presidents weekends, so far they look to be 1 for 1 this year. Looking forward to skiing Pico a couple of days. VAST trails need more snow.

Christmas and New Years both being on Wednesday helps. It tends to extend the holiday period to two weeks.

Phase 2 has arrived. 38 degrees and water injecting at Moose Manor.

You forgot about the part on Jan 7th about the 70mph winds scouring the Blower off the Porcelain surfaced trails, and into the woods...
