Opening day anti-maskers

Post by skibikeclimbguy »

The Jibbers and old ladies seemed to be the ones not wearing masks. Everyone else seemed to be down with the masks.

Hopefully other folks speak up and there are no incidents (health or compliance) that ruin it for everyone else.

I was in line for the North Ridge quad a bit in front of a small group of snowboarders who had the young jibber vibe going. I only noticed them because one kid teens yelled at his buddy to put his mask on. It was heartening to hear.

a friend asked a boarder on the lift to put his mask on and the kid refused. generally there has been compliance.

as someone who wears glasses under goggles, there have been times i've had a fogging issue. see that as a problem moving forward.

HI Skiadikt,
Also wear glasses under goggles. So far a tighter fitting N95 mask has been keeping the warm breath from coming out the top edge of the mask and onto my glasses. Not too comfy, but only fogging when bent over putting on boots so far.

John was thinking the same thing because my cloth mask gets so wet, I'm worried when it's freezing temperatures whether it will all ice up. By the way, I saw you skiing today from the lift.

Do you need to wear mask while skiing? Or just on lift?

I never wear a face mask while skiing unless its below 15 degrees.

I thought the industry standard was mask in line and on lift/gondolas

not sure what the rule is ... when i fog, i pull down the mask when skiing. but the damage is usually done when riding the lift. pre-covid, could never wear a mask even on the coldest days.

Hot air rises .. KZone doesn't hold a monopoly on that
Fogging up ain't a problem if you learn how to breathe properly with goggles on.

Yes, availability of N95 masks will continue to be a problem.
Why not leave the N95s for those who absolutely need them.
.. like .. those who have been risking their lives since March to protect your entitled lifestyle.

It's such a pain putting back on underneath my helmet that I do not bother taking it down. BTW you can get a KN95 that is similar to the N95 (those are not available to the general public)

I've been using one of the two layer cloth masks my wife made. Was concerned about fogging my goggles, but it hasn't been an issue. I always had fogging issues when I would plull up my neck gaiter on cold days, but the mask hasn't fogged the goggles. It's too much trouble to raise it and lower it constantly, so I have just left it up. Does get damp, so needs to be washed nnd dried ieach day.

I do see quite a few on the slopes with masks down.

So can I apply the castle doctrine to this? If someone is in your confined space? Can you dispatch them and defend yourself? The average person can't bail on a moving lift. Is deadly force justified? I wonder about that from a legal prospective. Covid could be a possible deadly weapon. Can you pop them twice and throw them off the lift? People have been pushed off lifts for less.

I had lots of fogging issues the last couple days wearing a mask and glasses. Did notice a few people who are not wearing mask over the nose, a very limited amount not wearing a mask. I went to drug store to buy a few different ones to try. So far they all seem to be terrible. Tried putting on my goggles which helped for a second but didn't solve the issue. Typically in years past I wouldn't wear a mask unless it was below 0 degrees. From seeing how much my glasses fog up. I'm not impressed with these elite doctors, science says warm air rises. In my opinion in cold weather your breath stays in the air longer because hot air rises. I think I am better off wearing a mask skiing even though I hate it. This hypothesis could be why we have a larger outbreak in the winter.

Are neck gaiters acceptable? I’m planning on using one once completing my quarantine.

If your are covering you are in compliance.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine.
