I thought FIS was looking for a US resort that could host early, as many of the early races in US have ended up being cancelled due to lack of snow. Killington stuck out because of their snowmaking firepower, and hasn't missed yet.

So you want to close off the Superstar pod for 2 weeks mid season? How's that going to work? You would have to go thru the Rams head / snowshed tunnel to get from one side of the resort to the other.

I didn't know Dec. 10 was mid season, but yeah. They could also open the South Ridge chair.

mike solimano answered that at a recent KPAA meeting by saying having the WC later would close the supe pod for a couple weeks in "primer" season essentially breaking the mtn in half.

people here get nuts because it seems like the mtn is concentrating all their resources on WC and that SR, okemo, mt snow might have more open terrain at tgiving. imagine in mid-december or january. the whining would be off the hook.

the south ridge chair only makes sense if bear is open and bear doesn't open until maybe a week before xmas. but you don't wanna mess w xmas so move into jan. then you have mlk coming up. it would be a major inconvenience any other time. tgiving though a holiday is not prime season so they don't lose much by having the event then.

Leave aside that FIS isn't likely to break tradition on their signature marquee events which occur mid-winter in the European theater. Concentrating in North America early season has worked well for years and will continue.

Closing off SS lift and trail once the resort is nearing full operation would only have happened under Nyberg.

TtB is just a week or so away :like
Looking forward to lower Bunny Roller Derby

They could start early season by opening South Ridge first by building stairs up Helter Skelter and on to the top! Then TTB would begin at Bear and... never mind.

IF they are going to try to pull that off they sure aren't talking about it.
