Yep. Nothing unexpected. Skier visits up but not back to 2019 level. Mountain biker growth going along well. (50,000 in 2021 expected to be 55,000 this year.) some videos and photos of work on the new lodge and what it will look like when completed. Chet spent time on TIF approval. Some free wine and food for a smaller than usual crowd.

Look what happened to Stowe when they built out on top of the road.

Look at Rutland when they created a surplus of hotels & fast food,

If K is minus ~400 workers now, where are the extra 275 coming from??!

Vermont is in denial- go see the village @ Trembant or Big Sky or Mammoth, every thing on the road up to it dies due to lack of employees & affordable housing.

Vermont is in denial- go see the village @ Trembant or Big Sky or Mammoth, every thing on the road up to it dies due to lack of employees & affordable housing.

At least in terms of parking spaces, that’s oversee under the permits, with remote parking replacing the spaces lost at Snowshed and Ramshead.

Oh yes. Everyone loves remote parking. So easy for locals to head up to the mountain for a few quick runs on their lunch hour.

I hate the idea and have spoken against it several times at hearings. Unfortunately that train left the station years ago.

So here's an item I struggle with - I was recruited to the area as a professional. I see how hard it to recruit to this area. Either ya ski or ya leave, its that simple. Many of us rearrange winter schedules to take laps and also contribute to the area teaching / coaching / volunteering in various fields.

Then K launches a proposal like this when the access road can barley accommodate traffic now, ya cant eat on the mtn b/c there's no capacity, ya don't bother to spin the lifts midweek at Pico at all, & everyone can see that there's no place for any service level staffing to call home.

Ppl already don't take the bus from Rutland to K to work - where are these resort workers to arrive from?

Yet lets build 1500 residences and remote multilevel parking garages.

Is it lack of employees and affordable housing, or is it the fact that a village draws all the out-of-town money leaving the local establishments with only locals as customers? If I owned a local business on the access road, I'd be fighting the village with everything I had. At a minimum, it's going to increase competition, but it's more likely going to drive a lot of folks out of business.

I'm not crazy about a village project, especially if it takes away ski-on/ski-off parking. For me, a village adds nothing to the experience. But I'm an out-of-towner who doesn't get a vote. For all the locals who do, why would you support this project? Seems to me you will get little to nothing out of it, and in fact it might make things worse for you, and if it fails you'll likely have to foot the bill as a taxpayer. So, why?

Although I usually do day trips, I support the village 100%.

It will add a significant amount of on-mountain lodging which Killington has a shortage of. Good luck finding anything available on a typical weekend now. That's limiting their skier visits as all population centers are out of day trip range. It also improves their ability to attract weekday visits, which most eastern resorts struggle with.

It will also improve their ability to be more of a year round resort, which means more stable revenue. There will also be new lodges and lifts that get built as part of the village project itself.

As for parking, Killington has 5 base areas. The spaces that will be lost weren't all that close to the lifts anyways. K1, Vale, Bear, and Skyship are unchanged.

Yes, sometimes the access road has traffic, but with more people staying on-mountain, fewer people will be trying to leave all at once. You can also park at Bear or Skyeship and avoid the access road completely.

If people want nice things, they are going to have to deal with how crowded the place is at times.

There will always be days, times and places to escape the hordes, but higher skier visits (in general) is a good thing.

that's false. a lot of k workers take the bus, either from rutland, from mendon, or from the bottom of the access rd. mostly J1 workers but not entirely, some locals too.

that being said there NEEDS to be affordable housing for ALL incomes. this stupid idea of "it's a resort town so you don't deserve to live here because youre not rich and successful like me" needs to f*** die. these rich f*** seem oblivious to the concept that their servant class needs somewhere to live... or they will be without servants. and its not just the low income servant class getting f*** over, the middle is getting f*** too. there's posts almost daily on the killington locals FB page desperately looking for housing by area professionals... teachers, nurses, etc.

also, removing ski on/ski off parking will kill what makes killington special: it's parking lot scene is better than every other mountain ive been to, because of its convenience. that kind of organic community building can't be replaced.
