$16+ for a beer?

Re: $16+ for a beer?
I was told point blank by a K employee
"If you don't like the price, change the venue."
And yes, I will certainly change my venue going forward.

The 18% is implied based on Vail’s margins on revenue.twilkas wrote:do servers not get their full tips?Mister Moose wrote: ↑Nov 8th, '23, 16:08 when you tip the bartender 20% on that $16.75 beer, you're also tipping Vail 18%
Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, then overwhelm you with their experience.

The prices have gotten out of control. If people are paying them, good for Killington I guess. My crew has started bringing their own or going elsewhere for drinks.
Re: $16+ for a beer?
Ok. just wouldn't think to lump actual revenue into tips, but i see what mm was getting at. as to realreddy above "hey, sorry i don't control any of this' would have been a good enough response from the bartender. unless there was more going on there prior that we're not hearing of.spanky wrote: ↑Nov 8th, '23, 19:16The 18% is implied based on Vail’s margins on revenue.twilkas wrote:do servers not get their full tips?Mister Moose wrote: ↑Nov 8th, '23, 16:08 when you tip the bartender 20% on that $16.75 beer, you're also tipping Vail 18%

I know its cashless now at the Peak. Always leave some cash on the bar. It's just the classy thing to do.

Re: $16+ for a beer?
Always tip you bartender, but if the resort is cashless, not many (me included) will be leaving cash tips. The cash for the tip comes out of the change from your beer.
Re: $16+ for a beer?
When I bartended back in the early 2000s we would sweep all of the change tips into a big pile, and give to the homeless folks. It was too much time to sort, count and deal with all the coins, for what you got. If you are tipping in change, and not by a percentage, you probably should stick to bringing a few beers in your bag, everyone will appreciate it, mostly the bartender. We would always say, if you can’t fold it, hold it.

I like to have some on me, but prefer to pay digital. I'm sure the service industry hates digital tips, because you can't lie about it on your taxes. Sort of sucks for them in that regards, but I'm also not going to specifically carry around cash to accommodate that.
Also a $3 tip for 1 beer? that's crazy... Especially if its a can. If I'm having multiple beers then I tend to lean towards more of a regular restaurant type tip.

So you only kept tips that were on a credit card? Or are you conflating change and coins? Change comes in the form of bills as well.GlenPLake wrote: ↑Nov 9th, '23, 08:45 When I bartended back in the early 2000s we would sweep all of the change tips into a big pile, and give to the homeless folks. If a beer is $11, I hand the bartender a 20, get $9 in change, then leave a couple of bucks on the bar.
My response was to Angus saying to tip in cash. If cash is not an option, I don’t have a couple of dollars to leave on the bar, I’m not leaving a 20, so the default is to tip on the credit card.

I prefer cash for small purchases. Don’t like having all sorts of small charges on my card statement to review. Cash is king.
I actually find it super annoying that the resort has gone cashless.

Get used to it, cash is not king anymore. I don't really understand what's wrong with small charges on your card but that's going to be more and more common in the future.

While cost had nothing to do with it, I'm certainly glad I gave up booze reading these prices. Absolute gouging. Such a waste of $$$ at those prices on an utter garbage drug.

Those prices make the fact that I very rarely drink (and never while skiing) even easier of a choice lol.
