Re: Expansion
The stairs were installed to be a band aid for early season skiing with an uncooperative mother nature. Recent history suggests they've now become the solution...

Re: Expansion
No TTB on the weekend before Thanksgiving when the competition had opened with more terrain is definitely disappointing. Of course the competition is not getting ready to host 10s of thousands for a WC race. With this current cold stretch let's hope that open terrain increases significantly in the next couple of days. Not having Snowdon open for the weekend with the big crowds will not be good for the image.

Re: Expansion
Although not open now, Loon has over 300 guns running now. They have invested in up grading their snowmaking horse power over the years and it shows. Boyne got Sunday River and Sugarloaf up and running top to bottom first, Loon had milder temps.

"Work with the cards being dealt?"boston_e wrote: ↑Nov 20th, '23, 11:04 Totally disagree regarding the negative comments on Mike. Great guy who is doing a good job and can only work with the cards being dealt and he is out there and available to the public. I think he is also a very good communicator as to giving out the true story.
With that said, it is fair to be disappointed in the trail rollout thus far.
I'm wondering if anyone with boots on the ground could give me an honest prediction on the chances of top to bottom tomorrow? I'm considering driving up tonight for some "pre-turkey" turns, but don't want to come up for the same rime and reason and hike back up the steps again.
They're currently experiencing the coolest November since the 18/19 season, however, 4 days before the World Cup resources are still be diverted away from the paying public and season pass holders to support the paid attendants.
Not to mention - the report, which ultimately falls under his purview as the head of the mountain had blatant lies for days. "Using every opportunity to expand top to bottom skiing, while making snow for the World Cup" They weren't making snow on the Killington side for days with this posted.
Everyone is willing to "give" him a pass, that's the problem. He doesn't deserve a pass.

Re: Expansion
From Preston's bio at the US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame:
Preston often changed the status quo. Probably his greatest achievement was his commitment to constantly improving and expanding snowmaking, ultimately earning Killington a worldwide reputation for dependable snow conditions. In the early years, Preston and his crews pressed to make Thanksgiving opening an annual reality and the rest of the industry soon followed. He then pushed the limits of his snowmaking year after year, eventually extending the ski season at Killington from October to June.
He really was relentless when it came to snowmaking back in the day when Killington was hands down "the Snowmaking Capital of the World" as they would boast.

Don't fly Mr. Bluebird, I'm just walking down the road......
Re: Expansion
I am willing to bet that most of the Killington staff, including Mike, are getting tired of the WC. In two weeks this will all be a distant memory.
Are they working on Upper Bunny Buster too or just GN/Lower BB? Anything on the Bay 1 stretch or Lower Chute?

Re: Expansion
If Loon can operate 300 snow guns, Killington should be able to run 600.

Any eves on the hill? Does TTB look like a possibility for tomorrow?
Don't Killington Pico
Re: Expansion
Hate to break it to you, but in it's current state, while still impressive in size, K isn't the undisputed "big dog" of New Enlgand snowmaking anymore.
K would likely need to double the size of it's system with resprct to pumping capacity, main line water feed size, air, and add a BIG number of automated and some semi automated guns to remotely approach that 600 number, let alone be able to hire LOTS more snowmakers as well. Likely talking an investment of tens of millions to be able to attempt to make that happen across the resort

Appears that they're making snow to skiers left of the snowmaking pipes on Lower Superstar......Can't have dirt showing for the TV audience.
