Folks that I know that got their pass pulled were all in the canyon. Hard to argue with hi def photos as it appears Killington has made some upgrades. Mistakes were made as one of my ski bum teammates had his pass pulled but he had not ducked any ropes. The resort did admit to the mistake and reissued his pass.

Should the resort issue taser guns to the new Speed Control Enforcement Squad?

Vinny Gambini : Maybe you didn't twist it hard enough.

Mona Lisa Vito : I twisted it just right.

Vinny Gambini : How could you be so sure?

Mona Lisa Vito : [sighs] If you will look in the manual, you will see that this particular model faucet requires a range of ten to sixteen foot-pounds of torque. I routinely twist the maximum allowable torquage.

Vinny Gambini : Well, how could you be sure you used 16 foot-pounds of torque?

Mona Lisa Vito : Because I used a Craftsman model 1019 Laboratory Edition Signature Series torque wrench. The kind used by Caltech high energy physicists. And NASA engineers.

Vinny Gambini : Well, in that case, how can you be sure *that's* accurate?

Mona Lisa Vito : Because a split second before the torque wrench was applied to the faucet handle, it had been calibrated by top members of the state *and* federal Department of Weights and Measures... to be dead on balls accurate!

Mona Lisa Vito : [ripping a page out of a magazine and hands it to him] Here's the certificate of validation.

Vinny Gambini : Dead on balls accurate?

Mona Lisa Vito : It's an industry term.

WHO MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO SKI?! WHO BUILDS YOUR LIFTS? WHO BUILDS YOUR LODGES? WHO SERVES YOUR DRINKS? WHO WATCHES YOUR KIDS? WHO CLEANS YOUR VACATION RENTAL? WHO BLOWS YOUR SNOW AND GROOMS IT? WHO SLEDS YOU DOWN THE MOUNTAIN WHEN YOU ARE HURT?

if im not entitled to make a life here working to make these things possible, youre not entitled to enjoy them. again my point all along for years now. your vacation is not possible without us.
Likewise, I hate your attitude. I did not say I was entitled to anything. I pay for my way and I am not complaining about it. You're the one complaining and acting as if you're entitled to something (ie cheap housing in town).

And my vacation is absolutely possible without you. There are plenty of other people around who are willing to take my money, and I really don't need to do business with you.

On the other hand, your life in the mountains getting to ski regularly is absolutely not possible without me. I subsidize your town services, paying taxes you don't without consuming as many services as someone who lives there full time. I pay for passes which allows the mountain to operate, put in new lifts, etc. I even pay local vendors and service providers, and without me good luck finding anyone in town to do your plumbing, your plowing, your roofing, etc. There would also be no restaurants or nightlife in town without me and people like me.

You can thank me whenever you're ready.
ok mitt romney, yeah, im just a taker who pays no taxes. f*** right the hell off. income taxes, property taxes via rent, sales taxes, etc.

YOU CANNOT HAVE WORKERS WITHOUT HAVING AFFORDABLE HOUSING WITHIN A REASONABLE COMMUTING DISTANCE. and for the record, i dont live in killington. i spent one season living there (rent in 2015: $600 a month all included for a room in a two bedroom, that same apartment is on airbnb for $600 a night + $400 cleaning fee of which the cleaners make $40), and then found somewhere else better to live. and the rents in rutland are not remotely what they used to be, i have a friend who just went through a bad breakup and is looking for a new spot and the rents for what youre getting are completely f*** outrageous.

"find somewhere else to live" ok where? where in the US is there affordable housing? every single f*** state is going through this crisis but yes keep gaslighting us. i forgot, vermont is a state thats only for wealthy vacationers, everyone else should f*** off and be grateful for the wealthy letting their money trickle down to us entitled poors who live in a wealthy vacationer state

Killington_Lover wrote: Dec 12th, '23, 12:47 So back to poaching- anyone go out to coops lately? Granted not talking about ducking west glades rope if it is up but we have some friends that haven’t been to K that want to see it but noticed that new patrol shack with a sign saying “smile your on camera”, along with this talk of rfid tracking or whatnot I have second thoughts!
had a massive fight with a now former friend over this. its public land outside of their boundaries. they dont have the right to stop you from accessing your land. i dont even know why there's a rope up other than to prevent out of towners from getting lost, there hasn't been a rope there in previous years because they're not supposed to be blocking access to that. if anyone does get their pass pulled for going there they should push back hard on that, its a total overstepping of authority on behalf of killington. their agreement to operate on a mix of land including state land ends at their boundaries...

according to killington's website, out of bounds is at your own risk (which it always has been).

and yeah, that was part of my conversation with patrol when i got confirmation they were using cameras on the canyon runout.

In what world is the 30 minute ride to Rutland not a reasonable commuting distance? 85% of the millions that commute to NYC everyday have a much longer than 30 minute commute.

You have yet to establish that workers can't afford housing within a reasonable commuting distance of Killington. Last time I checked, the place was fully staffed and still operating.

Your problem is the same problem we all have. Lack of affordable housing is not unique to Killington or Vermont. You're conflating issues and blaming wealthy vacationers for a problem they didn't create and are not responsible for. Those same wealthy vacationers basically make your current life possible, so you should probably consider that when formulating your opinions.

We're all gonna need poaching caps (colored shower caps) to cover our helmets before ducking a rope...wasn't me, my helmet is blue.

They have been using cameras and recognition software to catch pass sharing for years. It predates the RFID. I was once standing in line at the passholder lunch, with a woman who told me her pass had been pulled for sharing at the Superstar lift, and she had no idea why. Her whole family had passes. Her pass never left her possession. The only thing she could figure was that her name was something like "Mischael" and they thought it was a man's name and pulled her pass. She said the mountain never apologized for the mistake.

I don't remember a lot of moaning about it here over the years. Probably cause the vast majority here don't try to share passes.

But apply it to poaching, and it's all about false positives and big brother AI.

My wife got stopped a handful of times (seemingly always at Snowdon triple) by a guy hand scanning that didn’t think the photo and or name matched what he was seeing. My wife is 6’1”, we wear somewhat baggy attire (ex park rat here) and after a point we went into customer services to complain about the profiling going on. Pay 1200 for our passes only to be suspected of stealing services repeatedly was infuriatingly lame.
