You know, that is a great point. If the admins to decide that anonymouse aliases are bad, then it would be as simple as enabling phpBB's IP button for everyone to see. I'm not saying they should do that, I'm just saying it would be a simple way to do it.Mister Moose wrote:There is a reason newspapers, a great forum of free speech, don't publish anonymous letters.

I've said that before, but some people don't want to believe mepizzamoose wrote:Dork, to answer your question, I think that all we need to do is look back. Every year I can remember we've all gone a little nuts in the summer time. Perhaps if we ignored this problem, it will go away come Columbus Day. If not, we can re-address it then. In general, I don't think policy changes are a good thing.
Its just much more fun to bash the incessant andy zee from an alias with a real gay looking avatar.Mister Moose wrote:Dork;
I've seen many extremely funny posts by aliases. However, I don't understand the need to be anonymous when doing so.

o There could be a section on the site where aliases are tallied if you wanted to find out who was who. I think there would be far less venom if everyone was more accountable for what they say, and could not hide behind an alias. And I would like to know who to give credit to when they are very funny.
But wouldn't that tak away the fun? After all, who really wants to know who

Thank you Dork for starting this thread. I don’t really have the time this evening to elaborate on this (have to get up very early tomorrow morning). I have stayed away from the board because people have been hurt by certain posters. It’s not about being sensitive, it's about assuming you know a person. So, sometimes hurtful things end up being said about people that are NOT the truth. Sometimes a joke is made and then certain posters will come along and make it into something it’s not. Interesting threads end up being pure crap. I’m sure others will agree with me but I can’t stand reading that sh*t.
Some folks look for support from friends and, again, by certain posters those folks are made fun of and teased (i.e., Pizza loosing weight. Sorry Pizza to use you as an example but it’s the first thing that comes to mind.). Folks, we are NOT children for God’s sake!
Dork, you said something like “perhaps we never should have met.” On the contrary, that is what has made this board what it is. Many “real” and “true” friendships have been made. Newbies see this and want to join in and most of us have welcomed them with open arms (I know I was). That’s what makes this board special. If I didn’t find this board, I never would have skied so much in the last two seasons, would have I gotten a ski house share nor would I have made wonderful friendships. From the bottom of my heart, I thank those folks.
A discussion or a debate is one thing but a flame war is truly nasty.
As far as the aliases… they’re cowards in my opinion.
OK, so I did elaborate a little.

And by this point in the evening, Dork should be able to total up the posts from the people who have an alias with their base persona and we will find out that none of those peoples total posts comes near the top five posters in terms of totalposts without an alias.

I knew it was him but I wanted him to state it. Cappy has few other aliases he hides behind sometimes.2knees wrote:i thought maybe ty was joking but i guess not. go back and read capboy's first response to my post. I knew it was Capboy from the beginning because of a mention of a certain B'Ball pitcher (he knows what I'm talking abouttyrolean_skier wrote:I knew it was him but I wanted him to state it. DMC = Dedo? Somehow I don't see it but I may be wrong.

I'm 100% alias-free. I think using your real name keeps things much more civil.Skibumtress wrote: I knew it was Capboy from the beginning because of a mention of a certain B'Ball pitcher (he knows what I'm talking about) and DMC, I figured out last night. I'd prefer that my IP address not be shown in my posts. It'd be really poor form for my work domain name to show up on message boards.

Thanks, Bummy. Someone earlier brought up TGR. I got ripped pretty hard by Roo on TGR about being fat. Much harder than anyone here did. Comparisons to Fat Bastard, posted .wavs of "get in my belly!" I don't know Roo - and initially I was thinking, "here some guy who doesn't know me trying to f*** with me. A stranger! Who the hell does he think he is?" If I responded to that the way my gut wanted to, it would have turned into another disaster. Instead, I used my head and I made a conscious decision not to give a sh*t about it and actually go along with it in a self-depricating way. I even put get in my belly as my signature there.
Turns out that Roo was cool about it. He was just having fun, like many do here. I don't think anyone here wants to hurt anyone, they're just here to get by life just like you. It's a shame that we tend to take this stuff personally, and like I said, I'm no exception.
For better or for worse, this is the group we have. Some people won't like it, but I don't think you could have any culture where 100% of the people will play along. It would be a mistake to try to change it - that would be like changing our collective personality. It's not happening.
