Killington VERSUS Okemo?

Post by Poyeboy »

I see folks in other forums who say Okemo rulez and Killington blowz - I say Okemo is an overhyped, overpriced gaperville. Who's with me?

Killington has it all ,the various terrain, the number of trails, the number of lifts plus 2 Gondolas!
The ONLY thing Okemo does better is Blow snow..

Closer to him obviously.

Since you are new to this forum, let me tell you that Okemo here is referred to as P-Okemo-n. We all agree that they do a better job at grooming but their terrain is pretty boring. They do have one run that has perfectly made moguls that some of the bumpers appreciate.

Ty,you have to admit they blow twice the amount of Snow. It's prob. because they have less trails to cover BUT they do blow ALOT OF SNOW on their trails.
Thats my honest opinion.

Boy oh boy, this sounds like fishing for posts. The two mountains cater to very different market segments, though of course, there is some overlap. I actually haven't skied Okemo in years, so I can't say what it's like, but I can certainly say this:

From what I read and hear talking to people I wish Killington had invested and taken care of the place the way Okemo has.

Okemo is basically a boring mountain. I let 2 passes expire in favor of paying to ski elsewhere.

Killington sucks. Everyone should go to Okemo. I would to Okemo myself if I wasn't at Killington, which sucks.

Catch my drift? If it draws some of the Killington crowd to Okemo, go ahead and let 'em flame us.

As you said they have a lot less terrain to cover so they can afford to blow more snow. I did give them credit for doing a good job at grooming. It is a great mountain for those people who like to do cruisers. I hear that the lift lines are pretty bad though.

Err.... you can't have gapers if you don't have anything steep enough to gape at.

Okemo is great for what it is. The vast majority of skiers are intermediates and Okemo is stuffed full of intermediate cruising terrain. To a strong skier, Okemo is pretty boring since everything is groomed and skis the same. To the intermediates who spend there money at Okemo, it's a great product. You have to get into the Vermont snow belt to have enough natural snow to support steeper terrain. Almost all the New England ski areas were established before snowmaking so trail layout had to take into account how much natural snow the resort receives.

if you're a rider it's not even close. okemo BLOWS AWAY killington. okemo's parks are some of the best in the entire country. it's embarassing how far behind killington is. then again killington/asc have always put skiers first. that's why the company sucks.

Question: Are there hidden tree stashes at Okemo (not asking WHERE they are, just asking if they exist)?
