Re: Juggernaut
The first time I came to Killington in 2001 I had only ever been to resorts in PA. Nowhere remotely close to the size of K. I read about a trail 10 miles long, and HAD to do it. Juggernaut was one of the first trails I did on my first day. By myself, on a snowboard. I didn't know what I was getting myself into.

Re: Juggernaut
I measured the whole, peak-to-skyebase Juggernaut on Google Earth and only got 7.38 miles? Has anybody actually measured the trail on skis?

I've heard rumors. It's the only 'in bound' area I've never figured out.
Don't expect anyone to tell secrets here - just a question in general.
Noticed some tracks in there Saturday.
Also heard that there was some Irene damage and that's why it is closed - or they just don't want to patrol it at the end of the day.
If you are truly dull and choose to drop into woods not bounded by trails you can get lost and die.
So Juggernaut is definitely NOT a useless trail for some of us.
Yes this is true. But when I refer to the peak glades being thicker I mean the trees on either side of Upper Catwalk. You cannot even walk through them, never mind pick a decent line.
If you hated Juggernaut to Solitude, and it would be easy to find evil in there I could still recommend Solitude to Sassafras. More vertical and the prizes are grander.

The trees on SR are larger than the peak trees. Crashing through peak trees is skiing on and through green evergreen branches. Crashing through SR trees, you are mostly under the canopy skiing through the mass of dead limbs and branches with more of the green stuff at chest level or above. Better vis on SR as you can see through the dead branches a bit, but you ain't climbing up and over any branches on SR. Break em off and crash through or go back the way you came.

Re: Juggernaut
I've had some very nice runs by running Juggernaut or Solitude past Sassafras and a quick climb to the top and plenty of fresh powder runs there well after everything else has been played out (Where on the map is printed 'Bear Mountain'). It was easier to get back to the top in the past.
Re: Juggernaut
I like the trail to be honest. It's a nice cruiser when it's not a pow day.
It must take them forever to groom the upper half.

Cruiser? I would call it more of a stroll. I will admit to hitting it once a year though, when I want to relax.Ragged#1 wrote:I like the trail to be honest. It's a nice cruiser when it's not a pow day.

You dont normally have to skate much on a nice cruiser. Even if it was an ice rink a lot of skating would be required on Juggernaut.Ragged#1 wrote:I like the trail to be honest. It's a nice cruiser when it's not a pow day.

On powder days I try to send susceptible skiers and boarders down "The Jug" and by that I do not mean "Jug Handle" I mean Juggernaut so I won't have to see them for awhile. Is it just me?

I like the Jug, but I certainly wouldn't send anyone there without telling them honestly what it was.GSKI wrote:On powder days I try to send susceptible skiers and boarders down "The Jug" and by that I do not mean "Jug Handle" I mean Juggernaut so I won't have to see them for awhile. Is it just me?

I always warn people to stay away from it especially when there is powder.Marc Shepherd wrote:I like the Jug, but I certainly wouldn't send anyone there without telling them honestly what it was.GSKI wrote:On powder days I try to send susceptible skiers and boarders down "The Jug" and by that I do not mean "Jug Handle" I mean Juggernaut so I won't have to see them for awhile. I recently warned a couple of boarders not to hit that trail. Yes GSKI, it is just you.tyrolean_skier wrote:I always warn people to stay away from it especially when there is powder.Marc Shepherd wrote:I like the Jug, but I certainly wouldn't send anyone there without telling them honestly what it was.GSKI wrote:On powder days I try to send susceptible skiers and boarders down "The Jug" and by that I do not mean "Jug Handle" I mean Juggernaut so I won't have to see them for awhile.
