Anyone know why it's not open? Solitude is but on the map Juggernaut isn't.

Yeah, Jugger isn't really a trail you would want to poach when the mountain's got nearly 4 feet of snow in the last 2 weeks. How long did it take to get down

As you 'ski' down Juggernaut, notice cross-country skiers going UP Juggernaut at a faster speed than you are going DOWN.

It's suicide for boarders.

Killington cut this trail for the numbers it provided: the "Longest" trail in the East.

It's really nothing more than a pole-pushing nightmare.

WASTE OF TIME, period.

Are there any glade shots that are worth the effort off the upper Jug?

I've heard rumors. It's the only 'in bound' area I've never figured out.

Don't expect anyone to tell secrets here - just a question in general.

Noticed some tracks in there Saturday.

Also heard that there was some Irene damage and that's why it is closed - or they just don't want to patrol it at the end of the day.

Juggernaut is a 10 mile long snoozefest of a trail so unless you are on xcountry skis don't bother. I sadly skied it once over 20 years ago and it must have taken 45 minutes or so to get down it.

It was a joke, I've never actually skied Juggernaut. It's on my "bucket list", but I can't for the life of me fathom why. This year for sure... Today's trail report shows it open and groomed! Go get it!

Lower Juggernaut was repaired this year, it's open, and it looks like they ran a cat up it at one point. I think they should restore the middle section, from the Fiddle chair to Bear Mountain road. I imagine, top to bottom, that would give them the longest trail in the east. Anyone know of anything longer?

Juggernaut isn't 10 miles any more. It was 10 miles when it went all the way down to Skyeship Base uninterrupted. I believe the longest extant segment is now 6 miles. It does indeed take about 45 minutes to ski the whole thing, if you call that skiing.

It is indeed more akin to a cross-country trail, but I find it very enjoyable and relaxing. Obviously, it requires no skill, but you're all by yourself, very close to nature, in what feels like back-country. Sometimes you can ski the whole trail and not encounter a single human being.

It is not appropriate for snowboarders, and there's a sign at the top of the trail to this effect.

Skirting the parking areas so you don't have to walk through them, and replacing the bridge some trucker took out would make for a better experience. We took it during the Dew Tour because all the lift lines were outrageous. Grandkids didn't mind the pushing so they enjoyed it. Not recommended for snow boards at all.

I meant Bear Mt. Road, but you didn't notice by error either, Doc. I wonder if they could replace the bridge with a tunnel? Kids love tunnels, and it might allow them to improve the pitch a bit. I suspect the problem with restoring that section is in the compressor area, there may no longer be room for the trail there.

I'm guessing that it was never a priority. You can see from the comments on this thread, most people don't consider Juggernaut a real ski trail.

Defenitely some good glade shots back there, but also some miserable glade shots too if you hit it wrong, not a place to go exploring thats for sure, you could encounter nicely pitched powder fields or be stuck in a stream bed or get treed in super tight pines, pm me for a tour......its deep out there

From Wiki on Juggernaut ...

It is possible for an opponent with sufficient physical or mystical strength of their own to turn the Juggernaut's unstoppable movement against him, by redirecting his motion so he gets stranded in a position in which he has no escape; both the Hulk and his son, Skaar, have managed this feat physically,[42] and Thor has managed this feat mystically with Mjolnir.[53][54] The only character to have stopped Juggernaut while he was in motion as an act of pure physical strength was the Hulk while he was War, a horseman of Apocalypse.[55]

omo...appropriately named trail
Lower 'naut to valley plunge was a mystical marvel to close the day yesterday

Not really any secrets... as Barnibus said there is skiing between trails out there (Juggernaut/ Solitude/ Sassafras). Some of it is awesome and some of it nightmarish. If you are either brave or stupid you can roll the dice. A lucky roll gets you amazing untracked powder steep and open. A bad roll gets you into some of the thickest crap outside of the peak glades. Unfun. You cannot get lost if you choose woods bounded by trails but you can have an awful time slogging through flat crowded piney woods. No room to turn at all.

If you are truly dull and choose to drop into woods not bounded by trails you can get lost and die.

So Juggernaut is definitely NOT a useless trail for some of us.

I've spent 45 minutes clawing my way through evergreens so thick, only Sir Mix-A-Lot would like 'em. I'd argue it's got the thickest forest on the mountain due to the more southerly exposure and slightly lower elevation. There are a couple shots worth finding, but there isn't a whole lot of elevation change in there... Without the SRT, it's tough to justify the lap required for a few hundred feet of tree vert.
