Okemo downloads and busses people to a high elevation chair.

Still i would think the summit elevation of okemo is similar to the base of the glades chair.

andyzee - enjoy the hike. I just hiked down from the peak and it is real nice up there, but below the bottom of Northridge, it gets pretty boney. We'll have photos and video up later this afternoon.

Set up a large cooler on the deck of that little building up there. Sell some bottled water, cold sandwiches and $2 candy bars.

How about a compromise Tom: You guys give hiking season pass holders a lift on the glades triple and we all promise to get drunk in KBL afterwards.

We will even cover your beers for the night. :D

Tom folks want the info and appreciate you giving it good and bad. They really don't give you credit of blame for either. We credit you for giving us what you can.

The other point is not many are comfortable with the explanation. Feeling is there could be a way to do this.
skiing is my addiction

Yeah me too. Those who get out on opening day, don't really care if their are dirt patches or not - and they don't mind hiking out either. All they have to do is tell you up front - we are open, but there may be patches and hiking is required - no one will have a problem with that. Those who want to still go will, those that don't will wait until its to their liking.

And I guess K has never heard of the phrase "soft opening".

The more I think about it, the issue is not about giving the customer a "high quality product" and all about saving bonuses. Look at the conditions during the last 4 or 5 Thanksgiving weekends - bollocks - brown snow, exposed rocks, patches of dirt, no base in some spots - yet they have no problem opening to the hordes that show up then. Not a high quality product for sure, yet they were open anyway. If its about money, come out and say it, we would have more respect for admitting the truth. But to say you are not going to open until you have a high quality product is sh*t marketing speak.

"Bonuses"? At Killington?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Oh, you meant for the nimrod executives that run ASC. Well, yeah. Probably.

The phrase "high quality product" is the same as "stay the course", "cut and run" or "the terrorists will have won". It's CYA political BS, nothing more.

Killington isn't capable of opening early any more. They don't have the money, time or resources to do what they did during the first forty years of their existence: run upper-mountain lifts, run buses and trucks, and get people (and their cameras) out on the snow as early as possible. So instead they open later, period.

And they justify their actions by claiming they're only interested in opening when they can provide a "high quality product". Or, better yet, the new K-Mart paradigm: a "high quality top-to-bottom product." As if the OLD way of doing things meant offering a "low quality product."

(Notice how "top to bottom" skiing right off the bat was never a stated goal until ASC's financial woes forced operational changes?)

In any case, it's nice to see that Tommy Boy is now a regular contributor to this chat room... hmm... ever since the AlpineZone / Dave Rathburn Fiasco, right?

Wow, what a coincidence. Still, he's here. A mite ticked off and probably a bit resentful of this added bullet point to his daily job duties, but here nevertheless...
