Killington Friday Morning UPDATE

Post by spinmaster »

9:00 a.m. -p Currently 24 degrees at the Mixing Bowl and we have 155 guns on line covering Rime, Reason, Goat Path, Killink & MTS.
Now the plan moving forward is that will will continue to make snow at the top of the mountain through this weekend. Due to the latest weather forecast which has warm temperatures and a chance of r**n for Tuesday and Wednesday, we will not be making snow from mid-mountain down. Check Matt Noyes weather discussion for a full explanation: http://www.mattnoyes.net/
The Million $ Question: We will attempt to cover the bottom of the mountain in order to provide top-to-bottom skiing when the next snowmaking weather window opens. As of today though, that doesn't look too promising until the week of Nov. 13th.

the kmart rep at the WM movie last night said opening day was november 11th. I asked, "is that official?"
his answer: "no, but we're going to try."

Waaah! The weatherman says it might r*in...we're too scared to open, waaah!.

My prediction is coming right in line. Killington and ASC have no balls!!!

I can't believe they are letting some rinky dink area over 500 miles to the south beat them to the punch. viewtopic.php?t=13461 This place has balls.

I don't want to hear one more thing out of you sh*t marketers how Killington has the most extensive snowmaking capabilities on the planet. If it was half as great as you brag about, you would be open by the time it warms up and have enough snow to make it through. Put up or shut up!

Which means an 11/11 opening is out the window... :-(

Well, this at least answers a question I asked in another thread.

The rest of your post, however, was really bad news. :(

Hopefully this is part of the "under promise & over deliver" approach Dave mentioned elsewhere.

We waited 6 months for THIS?

Post by da Pimp »

Well, it seems like the message to the New England public is clear: K has the resources, the technology, the smart people, the best mountain and weather conditions possible, and they will NOT do what other mountains are doing. No longer will do what they are capable of and what they claim they can do. K opened in many previous years with worse weather, less snowmaking time, and did a great job.

This sends these messages to skiers/riders:
1)It will be risky to book your trip or vacation at K. Things are changed.
2)It is going to be a struggle every week with ASC operations to deliver what customers always had in the past
3)The advertising and marketing is NOT backed up by the product.
4) Early season product will be limited and unreliable. This means people will NOT book Thanksgiving at K, and also gets people thinking of other places like Okemo for Xmas bookings where they feel there is lees risk and better product for their dollars.

For crying out loud, of course there wil be periods of warmer weather or r**n in autumn forecasts, it's always like this. Are they going to wait until a guarantee from mother nature? We might not see a lift turn until Xmas.
I am beyond pissed. Just bummed out for another sesason. I am just a victim with no recourse except this forum, for which I am thankful.
