It's weird also with a snowboard. It grabs the snowboard and you have to pull in your back leg quickly onto the board before you do a split! I was ok, but a mess when you have beginners! With 8 people, that will be interesting!
All the evidence you need to support this conclusion can be had by watching people try to load on the Snowden 6 on a busy Saturday. I've seen people fall and nearly get run over by that chair so many times. Also seen many a wipe out when people try to unload. I can't imagine the enormous cluster a busy 8 person chair would be. I'd be much happier if they put up gondolas instead of these 8 person chairs.
Gondolas have limited applications, and 99% of the time, they would not be a good fit for where 8 packs are installed.

As for the S6, people have short memories. The Slug was constantly stopping for misloads...

The 8 pack at Sunday River will move far more people than the lift it replaced.

Especially if it doesn't go on wind hold as often as the quad it replaced.
I prefer a chair with a bubble over a Gondolia any day of the week, you don't have to take your skis off!

True, but with the bubble you do have to hold onto your poles and not sit on them.

I’m not a fan of carpet loaders on HS lifts. On a fixed grip, it allows a faster line speed; they had one at Alta a while back, it was actually fun. No such benefit on a detach. The new Sunday River lift will serve a wide variety of abilities, and less experienced skiers tend to have problems with them. Boarders also find them challenging balancing act. Putting the mechanism indoors may help mechanically, however. Breck recently removed their loader on the Colorado Super Chair; my buddy who lives there says it effectively moves more people up the hill now due to reduced people issues. I’ll put the over-under at 5 years (and take the under) before Sunday River removes it.

I am glad to see Boyne resorts getting a new lift unrelated to top terminal face plants or de-ropements. They’ve been milking the River and the Loaf far too long.

Not going to happen, as the loading platform can be raised up to help little ones load by 6 inches. To do that, they need the riders in position in time which the carpet should do.

In reference to Breck, Colorado may well have been worse with a carpet but it was god aweful without it too when we were out there this past year. Constantly slowing or stopping every ride. No where near as bad as the Quicksilver, that thing is pathetic. In fact, the only 6's that ran smoothly anywhere in Vail's empire we skied were the Avanti Express at Vail (yup, has a carpet), BC's chair side of the Chondi (yup, carpet again) and the Kensho SC at Breck (I think it is so far out and you have to take a FGQ to get to it, very few folks out there and those that were knew what they were doing). As to the two carpet load six's, both happen to be Doppelmayr 6's which isn't unusual for BC, they are all Dopp. But for Vail, all their other 6's are L-P. Wonder if the two manufacturers have different carpet setups working better on the Dopp lifts?
