Based in Park City Utah, Powdr Resorts and SP Land Co. last month completed the purchase of Killington and Pico for $85.2 million. Powdr, which owns several western resorts, runs the on-mountain operation while SP Land oversees the resort's real estate development."

What a spin job.....

An Okemo Value pass with 17 blackout dates is priced at $649 and a midweek pass with blackout dates is $329. Both passes are good at Mt. Sunapee and Stratton.

These passes were much cheaper back in April. In think we paid a little over 500 for the Okemo value pass. It includes skiing at Sunapee and Stratton. The black out days are better too. Thanksgiving is not blacked out at all. It's got 17 days blacked out vs 18 at K. The extra day is MLK monday.

I know these mountains are like apples and oranges but when the snow in NE sux, Okemo will at least be skiable because of the quality of snow that they make so it does have some redeeming qualities.

quality snow means nothing if they don't have quality terrain, which they completely are lacking in

I'd rather ski MRG on dirt then hit the flats of Okemo on perfect corduroy
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

Roger that... I catch hell for skiing at Mount Blow but at least they have a handful of interesting runs, and decent snow. Okemo has great snow but you couldn't pay me to ski on it (well maybe for a price), hehe

If Killington is as great as many, if not most, on this board believe, aren't passes underpriced?

Too funny. My two favorite places to ski on a good day:

MRG - It's a puzzle to solve. Lynx, catamount, antelope and all the woods off the single. Natural snow is so much better than man made. No crowds. solitude. No commercialism. a very calming experience. A cool challenge. And yes I've helped shovel snow back onto the trails to try to help them stay open 1 more weekend. When other resorts say thin cover it's not the same as Mad river with thin cover. No other resort really has the same level of challenge consistantly.

Okemo - No thinking at all. Just link high speed turns all day over perfectly groomed corduroy. Comfortable padded chairs with footrests. Heck there are even elevators to the bathrooms so I don't have to do stairs in my boots. The uniformity of the slopes is not a negative if you are looking to just make perfect turns without a care in the world.

Killington is a compromise. It's got some bumps and some steeps. It's got some tight woods and some wide open groomers but it's not the best at anything. It's just OK at everything and happens to be convienent.

Just my two cents.

Stratton isn't that bad really, if you can deal with the fur-boot wearers. They actually have a few decent runs (Beardown, Spruce, skier's left of Standard - great bump runs). But besides a select few runs, it's not called Flatton for nothing, it can be pretty boring. Of course, I ski at Mount Snow, so who am I to rate any other mountain as boring, hehe. Excellent physical plant though. Lifts and snowmaking are top notch.

Skied there last year, first time ever. I was quite impressed by the overall professional operation in place. The parking is BS but once you get to the lifts- all set. Super nice staff, everyone smiling, fast lifts.

The place is flat but the runs are quite long. The tree runs are amazing. Lots of vertical. I was really surprised. It was a 40 degree midweek day after one of those March storms 8) and had a comp pass!

Okemo is great because of the fast groomers? Sorry, but I have to disagree. Have you ever been to Whiteface? I know, a lot of folks think it's too cold, too far, too windy, too icy, too wintry...whatever. Even on the worst ice day -- which came the day after a freezing r*in event -- was so bad that my snowboarding partner slid off trail -- was one of the most memorable and challengingly fun days I've ever had. Actually, I think that was the same weekend that someone died at K-Mart in the Canyon area after losing an edge (on Downdraft maybe?)...anyways, I digress...

How can you forget Whiteface?
