Please be aware that for safety reasons we will be strictly enforcing the No Hiking policy. Winching will occur most of the day on Friday, and we do not want anyone on the mountain who is not working while the cable is exposed. Any one violating this policy will have skiing and riding privileges revoked. Please understand the danger of being on the slopes while this grooming operation is in progress.
I know killington didn't mention the winch cat in there no hiking policy but I bet they did have heavy equipment on the mountain. Makes me wonder what recation no hiking will get from the Bush skiers?

Is the bush on private or public land?
Both, but it doesn't matter. Their lease with the USFS gives them the right to limit access to their trail system as they please.
steep terrain requires using a winch to drive the cats up and down the slope
basically it would SUCK to be skiing and run into a high tension wire
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

Ah, well then, I see no reason to argue about it, and it's nice that they didn't mind hikers on the days when work wasn't going on.

Probably not a bad reaction at all. Unlike Killington, new ownership at the Bush has built up a lot of good will and credibility with their customer base over the past couple of years.

what's da bush opening that they need a winchcat for? smells fishy to me. but k has no excuse unless that king of grooming, nyberg, thought it was necessary to winch great northern to produce a "quality" product ...
It is not fishy. When you blow a lot of snow and have 2-3 foot piles you need a winch cat to groom uphill safely and well on a trail like Downspout. With a cable stretched out over hundreds of yards it is a potential for a really bad accident if someone is skiing or riding down and does not see the cable which could be at neck level.

When was the last time you hiked for turns?
May.
Win, what is your opinion on hiking? I haven't heard much as to you guys not allowing hiking before, so do you allow it when major work (such as grooming or massive snowmaking), isn't going on?
Obviously, you are in a different position than Killington is, since you can legally limit access.
