POW DAY!!!

I got started just a few minutes after 8am and finished up just before 10am. Steady snow of varying intensity, winds weren't too bad to start but picked up after 9am. Snowdon Quad and Snowshed to start then Snowdon Triple opened up followed by North Ridge Triple and then the Canyon Quad. I don't have any idea about Bear, Skyeship, or Ramshead, although I saw Skyeship Stage One was running around 10:15am on the drive home. . . K1 and Superstar were both windhold during the time I was out there.

Some things roped off to start, I guess they didn't know if the trails were going to become windblown to nothing last night, Lower Royal Flush was open for my first run of the day and noticed Conclusion was open a little later, and other things that they had roped off were being opened up quickly.

The snow was not affected by the wind on Snowdon to start with great consistent dry powder, I would say 12-15"+, above the knee on Lower Royal Flush and Lower East Fall. Snow was a bit windblown on the Upper half of Cascade down to Flume then it was great beyond that. Other than that Lower East Fall, Lower Cascade, Rime, Upper and Lower Royal Flush were all fantastic and I lapped them all a couple times. I didn't attempt to get anywhere from Superstar all the way over to Bear, Snowdon was just fine for me!

Snowmaking is still underway with fanguns at Snowshed and Superstar going and some guns at K base, otherwise I don't know what else is going on on the other side of the mountain.

Legs were tired and after a few falls in the windblown snow on Upper Cascade I got snow everywhere it shouldn't be.

Temps were quite cold (around 10 degrees or so) and with the wind all the snow and melting snow made me extremely cold, so I called it a day...

Won't be able to get up there until Thursday night. Do me a favor and rope off a trail or two until then.

Today was a Pico day and what a day.
At least a foot of fresh with more up top. We needed it!
Out bell to 2:30 on some fat ol' Volkl Mantras.

First tracks on a pow day down Summit Glades was a treat I've never had before. Yummy.
Upper Giant Killer was absolutely wonderful. The big hazard was snow-filled ruts instead of the usual glare ice, rocks and dirt.
As the morning went on Upper KA, Upper Pike, and 49er all acquired an initial windblasted headwall, but everything below that was perfect. It was almost like there was a "snow start here" sign 100 yds down on each trail.

All of the trees I was in were just fine, except for one section near the Birch Glades where I managed to get a tip caught under a log, eject it, and go airborne. Time slows down in midair, so I spotted a decent landing into some snow.

The afternoon was still outstanding as there was plenty of untracked off of the beaten paths and in the woods.
ROTD was a toss-up between Summit Glades, Upper Giant Killer, or Mid-Lower B-Slope from the back door.

Definitely a wonderful pow day. First run was down Northstar and after that we skied Snowdon woods. Still hit some stuff but some of it was real nice and knee deep for me. The snow in the Snowdon woods was lighter than the snow in TL but even there it was nice. Royal Flush was very nice earlier in the day but you had to pick your way down later in the day. Escapade was in good shape. Cascade had some exposed areas when I skied it. East Fall had slick spots as well. Headed over to Bear where we skied upper Wildfire to middle Wildfire to lower Bear Claw. Lower Wildfire was closed due to snowmaking. Upper Bear Claw was pretty good too. We went to ski Old Needles and we were going to return to Bear so we could take the Skypeak quad to do more Needles but when we got to Bearly there was a ski patrol guy that told us that the quad had shut down so unless you were parked at Bear you could not go there because there was no way out of there (I miss the Snowshed crossover on these occasions). We had to go all the way down to the Skyship base and take the first stage of Skyship and then the Northbrook quad. After riding that windy chair I was so cold that I called it a day. Superstar quad never ran but people did manage to ski Superstar and Skylark by getting to it via Upper Traverse, Bear Trax and then Launch Pad.

Glad somebody got to ski pico today. I've had many great powder days there.

Upper traverse to ss was key early in the day.

Super super cold out there. Glad they
finally got the Gondi running.
