"We are psyched for some of the real stuff but be aware that our snow guns (all 3 of 'em) are at the ready and we will commence snowmaking operation (yeah, we make snow!) as soon as temps allow. The plan is to open as soon as Mother Nature allows. So lets all keep our fingers and toes crossed."
and hunter's neighbor plattekill is advertising mtn biking this weekend ...
It's official: OPEN this weekend Dec 3-4 for mtn biking! Unbelievable weather continues and we'll be spinning the lift again for yet "one more weekend"! Hope to see you here!!!

Wow! How did MRG get a 50% upgrade to their system and no one talked about it? Last year I thought they only had 2.
As for Hunter....can't wait until we get a 1-2 day period of actually cold weather, that's usually enough for them to open most of the mountain.

Hunter's snow making system may be powerful, but I am not impressed with the results. I generally find the conditions to be solid ice. Especially on the expert Hunter West side. I am much more impressed by the quality that Killington is able to get out of their guns (& groomers).

When do you ski? Weekends there is more skier traffic than any snow surface can handle on the main runs, as happens everywhere. At Killington, there are more places to get away from the crowds.
Also, the West Side is in the dark until afternoon. Midwinter.....it's icy most of the day. Unless you're willing to mow down the bumps, which they're not (and I thank them for), there's not a lot you're going to do about it. The expert trails at Killington (and really, pretty much anywhere) have the same problem. If there's been no natural for a while and it's cold, everything not groomed turns to a bumpy ice rink.

they actually only got a dusting out of the halloween storm.
they did better with last one but the only skiers on the mtn hiked for turns.
