nationally and in the East?
I know they're not releasing these numbers, but any estimates? Geoff would have some ideas, but he's MIA.

Stop kidding around, TT. I'm asking for annual skier visits for the resort.

But I bet I've skied more days than you this season.

It's when a skier or rider visits a resort and gets a lift ticket to access the terrain. It's actually more difficult to answer this question than I thought.

Do season pass holder visits do not count as skier visits? Employee pass visits? If someone buys an eticket online and never shows up, is that a skier visit? Or doesn't use part of a mutiday pass? Do stays in K properties count too (can you be a skier and not ski but visit)? How does stay and ski free work? What about voucher deals and free passes, are those skier visits? Does the cost of the ticket ever factor in (discount, free)?

PowdrKillington refuses to release those numbers, so there's no hard data.
We've guessed in the past that they're now down to somewhere between 650,000 and 700,000. Could be a bit more than that.

Hadn't even noticed! Probably a sign from the Avatar Gods that I need a new one.
Hmmm... gonna have to think about that one...

Phenomenal questions. Now make yourself useful and answer them or help with the numbers.

Wow, never seen such a vivid depiction of the transmission ripping itself out after a blade strike. (conservation of angular momentum is a bitch in a helo accident) Looks like they got out ok.

So, any idea how does 650K visits a year ranks with other ski resorts nationally? In the East? I'm guessing it ranks quite well on both counts. I'm sure it does in the East. Curious as to how it ranks against Western resorts.

I seem to remember reading that ski resorts do not have a standardized method of calculating skier visits. While a day ticket is obvious, there are allocations to pass holders. Those resorts with scanners can use an allocation or scan results. I remember there was a year when several resorts switched methods and skewed the state's numbers noticably. My guess is guests who do not ski are not counted. Guests who buy any of the ski packages or vouchers still receive a lift ticket and are counted. Not sure on employees.
Free tickets are still a visit, the number they would affect is the yield per skier.

Skier visit: one person skiing one day at an area. Doesn't matter what type of ticket/pass, including comps, they have or how many runs they take. With a scanning system like killington, if you are not scanned your day doesn't count towards their total.
Ticket revenue: total revenue from the sale of passes, tix, discount tix, combo deals, etc.
Ticket yield: $ per visit average, over a season, week, etc. Powdr pushed to increase this average their first year, at the cost of visits. They have since been fairly aggressive with promos to boost visits.

Killington's still #1 in the East, although they've fallen back to the pack in recent years. Okemo's #2 (that distinction used to belong to Mount Snow).
Versus the West? I'm guessing it'd be upper-middle-ish of the pack.
