POWDR is taking your jobs. Lifties and ticket checkers won't start till 8:30 next year. That time is coming out of your paychecks. POWDR has cut the ski season (job time) by 12.5%. Now they cut your day by 6.25%. Almost 20% of your paycheck, gone.

Are you being told not to scan folks early morning, or late day, or late in the spring? Now you know why. Spring skiing, late morning...what's next? No Southridge replacement because the "scanning data" shows no one ever skied there? Take a stand, save your jobs.

Stormy, don't make me plan an intervention, but yup, they are slowly shorting the ski season.

I know at Pico ticket checkers hours are from 8:30-2:30. By 2:15 they stop checking tickets and start to break down the maze. They only scan at the Golden and every once and a while the knomes knoll. I haven't seen a ticket checker at the LPT all year and just a hand full of times at the summit chair

6.25%? try 2%

2011-2012:
5*((12+4)-9)+2*(12+4-8) = 35+16 = 51
2012-2013
5*((12+4)-9)+2*(12+4-8.5) = 35+16 = 50

(51-50)/51 = 2% reduction in hours

Really they should open at 9:30 mid week. That would give them even less billable hours and with the reduced traffic mid week less degradation of their "product". Since there is not a hoard of people arriving at 10am midweek, it's no longer necessary to beat them to the goods by arriving early.

You obviously work for somebody else, and I'm willing to bet you also probably think Obama is a good president.

(.5 hr)/8 hr = .0625 = 6.25% for every reduced hour work day. If the work day is less than 8 hours, the percentage lost is even greater.

The question mark was me being nice. I knew how you got 6.25%. It's misleading at best, but when you added it to 12.5% to get "almost 20%" it is just outright wrong.

Yes, except they only reduce the 7 day work week by 1 hour total. For example, if a lifty works all 7 days and gets paid $10/hr (I have no idea what the real hours or pay is or if overtime is involved), they make $510/wk in 2011-2012 and $500/wk in 2012-2013 or about 2% less. In terms of "wallet share", the 2% analysis above is more reflective of the actual reduction in pay. If someone only worked the weekends, your analysis would be more accurate.

But more to the point, I know there are many more costs involved, but it is still inconceivable to me that a 1 hour mid-winter reduction in lift hours per week results in a whole lot of savings.

And those that work mostly weekends and holidays are affected considerably more...

Regarding this 'save 8-4 effort', odds may improve with a boycott, occupation or a coup.

Yes, I mentioned that. But let's put it this way, a 2% or so savings in hourly payroll probably has a more negative impact on employees than a positive effect on the resort's cash flow. And the resulting reduction in services will most definitely have a very negative impact on some customers.
