What ski area would you chose first to be a local at?
My wife has offered up the idea becoming a local for the season somewhere other than Killington after we retire. Each winter just pick another ski town and move there for the winter. This idea has me thinking over all the cool places that we could choose. Would Ouray, Co or Red River, NM be our first pick? Which leads me to the question - What ski area ski area/town would you chose first to be a local at?
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine.

I lived in sandpoint idaho for a few years, where you can ski schweitzer mt. , silver mt. and not more than 2 hrs to whitefish montana with great skiing there. lower altitudes did cause fog , but amazing , plus the terrain is out of this world . lots of hidden runs. canada is one hr. north for the greastest skiing and alot to choose from. revelstoke is among the best as well as panorama, fernie, kicking horse etc.Sandpoint is a great town to live in. Big enough where things happen. they have a great website.

ski life to the fullest

Sun Valley Idaho, Vail, or Aspen so I could mingle with the Hollywood-types
I lived in Sacramento one year. For an entire season we stayed in South Lake Tahoe 2 days every week. I think that's a nice town. Season passes to Kirkwood. You can't go wrong with that.

East Coast - Somewhere in the Mad River Valley that way I could easily access anything up or down the Green Mountains within an hourish. I mean I am retired, so I have all of the time in the world.
West Coast - Dillon, Silverthorne, or Frisco. You are right in the middle of the greatest skiing in Colorado Abasin, Vail, Breckenridge, etc all within 45 minutes.

I want to mix things up so something like MRG and sugarbush area would be nice. Maine offers Sunday River, Saddleback and Sugarloaf. Stay south of Saddleback for civilization and a good distance to all 3.
West is tough 'cause I like most places I have skied. Summit County with side trips to Cooper and Vail. The Boat is too isolated as is Crested Butte and Telluride. Salt Lake City or over the mountain just outside of Park City with several mountains within an hour of you. Seem Mountainman is finding all he needs near Seattle. Just SOO much to choose from.
How about a season at Whistler / Blackcomb?

Santa Fe wouldn't be bad as a retiree. It's the state capital so there is enough of a year-round economy to keep it vibrant. Great restaurant scene. Great art scene. Daytime temps in town in the 40's and 50's even on most "cold" January days. You're an hour from a real airport serviced by discounter Southwest in Albuquerque. Ski Santa Fe is a nice local ski hill. Taos is sub-2 hours from front door to base lodge. Even better, summer is the peak season and you can rent your winter place for premium dollars all summer to cover your expenses.
