Anti-fog and Cat Crap
Most of my skiing has been done with Smith goggles treated with their anti-fog cloth. If applied correctly, it works for me. However, I have been carrying around a vial of Cat Crap for thirty years. I tried it once and didn't obtain good results as I remember. Recently, I decided to try it again. It didn't work. Could that be because it has a shelf life?

I've got of that stuff too and it doesn't see to work. Isuppose it really IS crap.

Re: Anti-fog and Cat Crap
Works in dive goggles. Doubt that is the same as ski goggles.

Re: Anti-fog and Cat Crap
Thanks for the replies. I threw mine out, but now wonder if I should have kept it for dive goggles. However, being 20 to 30 years old and drying, I think I might buy a new vial if I start diving.

I use cat crap to clean glasses, sunglasses,
watch crystals and the outside of my goggles. I don't use it to antifog my ski goggles, I like Smith cloth for that.

Put your goggles on, never take them off, stay out of the gondi's, and stop standing around. Your goggles will not fog.

I know I mentioned this before. These things work great. They are single (not double walled) lenses so they will fog a little more than a good pair of regular goggles, but they fog a lot less than glasses stuffed inside of goggles.Dickc wrote:My goggles never fog. That's the funniest thing I have read next to the posts that followed. How much skiing have you done? Was it all fair weather? Was it ever so cold that you saw your breath? Have you ever rode on a chairlift? Have you ever rode to the top of a major mountain in January? Are you just a wise guy from the flatlands?Stormchaser wrote:Put your goggles on, never take them off, stay out of the gondi's, and stop standing around. Your goggles will not fog.

I've skied plenty of days with him. He's a f-cking nutjob. Will ski in pretty much anything anywhere. And he's pretty much spot on with his advice. Not much I would add to it other than take your goggles out of your bag at night and be careful how you put them on - tuck your facemask completely under them.
But esepcially follow the gondola advice. Then you can give Aomic1 your catcrap for him to use as sunblock.

Of course, I sometimes lift my goggles up on a lift ride, but they don't fog up as I have a helmet that I set them on instead of on my hot and sweaty forehead.
I've found that still has the potential to cause moisture issues, though much less of a problem. The goggle lenses reach a consistent temperature inside and out due to the relatively constant temperatures outside and of your face. When moved to the forehead, even on a helmet, the temperature of the inside goggle lens will change due to the ambient temperature that surrounds it. No longer on your face and enclosed, the temperature of the inside goggle lens will decrease. Replacement of the colder inside lens to your face traps warmer air against a relatively colder lens creating the potential for condensation on the colder lens. This doesn't always occur, but a warm face with a colder lens can cause fogging, and is typically the same event that causes the lenses of people who wear glasses under their goggles to fog. Even without a ton of steamy moisture, condensation occurs on the colder glass lens, especially when the goggles are removed and replaced.

Re: Anti-fog and Cat Crap
Don't have too many issues with my goggles with fogging. I have the most massive goggles ever created (Von Zipper Fishbowl) and the ventilation is awesome. I've never used sprays, pastes, wipes,etc... on any goggles.
