heeee's baaaaack ....

they rolled out the white carpet for my return. report says 2" overnight. at the open hit a groomed ol which skied like a taos blue. after that, went on a search & destroy mission for pow. found some in various bear woods. my beloved growler was boot deep. been 2 seasons since i could hit stash woods from the top. thimble/vertigo skied well. old supe into a surprised groomed ovation which judging by the condition after it was groomed, must have really needed one. low rider was in great shape. throne was beat. light even more so. closed out my 3 hr tour with breakaway which skied well.

We spent the morning in the Canyon and almost everything was in good condition. Double Dipper and Downdraft had been groomed so some of the ice patches where covered up. Middle Ovation skied great but lower had some ice to contend with. Skyhawk was not a do over. Lower Skylark had guns blowing wet snow so not as nice to ski as yesterday. Somewhere/Nowhere skied pretty fast. Dreammaker headwall was in pretty good shape. Today I passed on Vertigo headwall because of my experience yesterday. Most of the naturals had scratchy stuff underneath. The line I took in Patsy's was very solid and fast. I much preferred Low Rider. The groomed runs were good.

Afternoon Report: Good Eastern Skiing !!

Normal route starting with Thimble that skied good if you stayed on the side of the bumps. Trees in the needles area very good cover and snow with quite slick underneath, but fun. Had a great run down a fast, but well covered Stichline. Heard lower Vertigo not too good. Bitter headwall good.

Old Supe very good; able to ski far right pucker due to the good cover. Middle O horrible in the right pucker and boring groomed (but OK) in the middle. Against my better judgement, went down Lower O and it was better than expected. Stayed hard left with mostly very good snow against the trees. The let turn back towards the trees was usually very icy against the grooming attempt down the middle left of the trail. Gotta believe a lot of skiers fell down that luge run through the day.

Over to Snowdown. ROTD was an unamed run with Low Rider a close second. Northstar fast but OK.

Escapade Flume OK as well with upper Escapade remaining boring and slick after the grooming two weeks ago. Yes, I'm still bitching about that. Laps through south ridge OK with Pipe Dream being the better choice.

Finally checked out Growler; probably better earlier in the day. VERY ICY; be careful if you go in there. I should have skied the week or two before but it is what it is. Run down to Skyeship OK with Valley Plunge very skiable but quite slick. Leach field was awesome for the final pitch.

Saturday was a great day to be on the mountain, especially early before it got crowded. The canyon was great with still some 3-4" powder in Big Dipper. Even did Devils Fiddle for the first time in years. Crazy crowded after lunch so we stopped a little early.
