2/25/17 Saturday fog/ sun spring conditions

Post by Finn »

Greetings all. Day 41 started with fog on k side and with the k1 gondola on hold till 10:15.
Walked over to SS lift. Major fog going over to bear.!
Went down sky to SS chair then did the same trail gateway under skypeak chair. Trail over ice and puddles. Went to Needles eye. Foggy.
Took panic/ needles ok snow but foggy.
Did it a few times. Rode the chair. Did cruise via scenic vista.
Bitter high road too a few times.
Snow spring and frozen ok. Went to SS did the head wall and could not see a thing. Did SS to sky ok a few times. Met my friend and had a partner to ski with at SS top.
Went to snowdon quad to glades then a run or two their. Took a run down cascade. Again top/mid ok. Bottom hard to see and frozen. Run off good snow.
Took k1 to peak as it opened short break and great northern down to mouse trap.
The sun is out and the cloud/fog is gone but I am done.Be safe peeps :cool.

what a difference a week makes. skied the 8-10:30 shift and it was pretty uninspiring. as noted fog was a major issue. most of the groomers were ok but trails like skyeburst had some base ice & bare spots showing. ungroomed runs were still on the firm side. if the sun came out, i'm sure the skiing was good but many trails have sustained major damage. highline a case in point. looks more like april out there. unless we get reasonable snow on the backside, tomorrow could be one of the worst days of the season.

Uninspiring is a good way to put it.

There is soft snow, and yes it is nice, but not in February.

I am glad that no one is trying to sugar-coat this devastation that has been thrust on us.
May God help us

Lots of fog greeted us this morning and it kept moving. We hit Bear early and OL was not a good ski at that time - friends told me it skied great this afternoon. The other trails were OK. We moved over to Needles where Old Needles was pretty good and lower Vertigo was great. Old Superstar had lost a lot at the bottom and I had to go through the brush to avoid the brown stuff. Did not ski Ovation at that time but other people who skied it later in the day said it was pretty good. In the Canyon I liked Downdraft and skied it multiple times. Escapade was in good shape too. The rest of the the Canyon runs were pretty good too. Northstar had developed a few brown spots but I could still find a line to ski on it. Great Bear is pretty flat and is also developing some brown spots. Rustyk, SBF and TricksForKids told me that they had tried some woods but none were good. It r*ined tonight but right now it's snowing.

Arlberg morning report.

Our weather through the week varied as well with uncharacteristic r*in [mostly] to snow Tuesday. Spring skiing on Wednesday was fantastic with some techical descents higher up and off piste. Forecast 8" snow Friday was very good in afternoon and ended up dumping much needed 15" or so for our final day Saturday with bluebird skies and low skier traffic [Saturday is `change over day`]. Full on powder day to end our yearly visit to the alps.

The Apres ski [every day] is crazy even though we avoid Rusty`s Mooservert. PM me for suggestions if u ever come over here.

Will be back at K Thursday so get it back in shape for us. I wanna see some nice bump lines in the trees.

Good April skiing with SBF and Tricks. Trees NG due to stickiness and hollow snow. Good bumps for sure and lines were skier bumps. Saw a bunch of zoners during the day and pinnacle ski club at the pickle.
Hate the temps, but enjoyed the spring conditions.
