3/5/17 Sunday funday
Hi peeps,
Interesting conditions today. Some wind and lots of snowmaking. Not as cold as yesterday but it is cold!
Skied cannon cascade, SS, sky and needles.
SS are seems great. Heard that the wind is blowing up the trials at bear.
Dead at the peak.

woulda been a bluebird day cept they found the poor critter frozen to death ...
very cold but tolerable temps in the morn with the afternoon "balmy" compared to yesterday's brutality. 11 at the summit around 1. overall the mtn did an amazing job recovering from mama nature's latest joke. the groomers all skied well. hit all the bear, needles & supe trails with panic/needles being a carving delight. but the trails w/snowmaking were where it's at. co-rotd were ol & crashcade. even mid-afternoon crash skied great. supe was great cept for the snow freezing on your goggles. lower skye burst & mouse trap also had fresh gunpow. didn't ski the north ridge but they were rolling out the white carpet up there as well. kudos ...

ROTD for me was OL this morning - did many laps on that one. Only left when the hordes arrived and they were also shutting down the guns. Skied the other runs at Bear too and lower Skyburst was also under the guns and good. The groomers at Needles were great but it was colder there than at Bear so did not spend much time there. The guns on Superstar did a job on my goggles that even a scraper had trouble removing the film on them - did not ski it after that. Skylark and Bittersweet both were groomed well. Cascade (ROTD2) was great under the guns so skied it a few times before lunch and skied it a lot this afternoon. Rime under the guns had formed some nice moguls so I skied that a few times too. East Fall skied well too. Was told that Double Dipper had a nice line on it too earlier in the day. Never got to Snowdon but was told that Mouse Trap was nice under the guns. No Canyon Quad today so each run in the Canyon required going back to the K1. Luckily this afternoon the lines had gotten shorter and we could do laps pretty quickly.

OL was super while I was solo early, but after taking the snowboarder my daughter arrived with on the "parks tour", by the time I got back there 3ish, it wasn't pretty...the snow was still soft, but not nice bumps, just the dreaded slide-to-a-stop walls. I never ended up checking why Needles & Canyon quads weren't running- too cold for lifties? My crew was certainly dressed to handle the chill in the air. Think Snow!

Needles Quad was running while I was at Needles. We even rode it once but it was too cold so took the box after that. Heard from my son that OL was not as good as it was when I was skiing it.DES wrote:OL was super while I was solo early, but after taking the snowboarder my daughter arrived with on the "parks tour", by the time I got back there 3ish, it wasn't pretty...the snow was still soft, but not nice bumps, just the dreaded slide-to-a-stop walls. Over at Pico I would agree that kudos are in order. Limited terrain is open but what is open skied well and considering the blow torch the past couple of weeks things really did recover pretty well.
ROTD was expressway. It was velvety and smooth under the guns.

Honestly I think ROTD was Double Dipper, just because of how surprisingly good it was.

needles never ran when we skied there both in am and after lunch. interestingly that was the coldest area on the mtn. we took one trip to rt 4 and that was pretty frosty as well. and yeah by mid-afternoon ol definitely wasn't as good as it was first thing. it looked like a feeding frenzy on it this morning.tyrolean_skier wrote:Needles Quad was running while I was at Needles. Needles Eye did run for at least a little while, but not well. We got on it at about 11:15 and got off it a little before noon. We were stuck one chair from the top in the wind for about 30 minutes. Got our voucher for $15 in beast bucks and called it a day because we were frozen from the wind chill.
Re: 3/5/17 Sunday funday
OL was great skiers right. Since I had the GS boards on, the bumps were difficult.
Concentrated on bombers down wildfire, panic, DD and highline.
Not many peeps out made it fun.
The guns only made things more difficult. Really like the firmer runs.

Afternoon Report. Sorry for the late post.
Follow the guns. Early [mid day].ROTD was OL. I had a good run there and did not hit ice by staying on the bumps vice in the troughs.
ROTD was late day Cascade. Middle entrance section prett slick but navigable. Lower pitch perfect manmade snow bumps. Gotta love those old air hog guns. Only complaint was one wet gun right at end of the run.
Late day lower Skyeburst [old bear claw] also very good.
Other than that flat and fast.
K did what they could with the hand dealt to them.

Goes to show, you don't never know
Watch each card you play, and play it slow
Don't you let that deal go down
Don't you let that deal go down
Looks like its going down no matter what I do !!!
