Jay
Was at Jay today and skied exclusively off the tram side. Was wondering if stateside is as good? The trees off the quad were amazing as well as the front 4 mainlines. It was unbelievable with a foot of fresh and all that base. The only thing I didn’t hit was the staircase. Also, does tram access add much more? It wasn’t running but looks Like it doesn’t add much overall
And the sea will grant each man new hope . . .

Yo. We skied two days at Jay midweek in February. The tram doesn’t run mid-week. It’s a great winter to ski Jay because Canadians are not there. It was very empty mid-week.
Tram - you lose the 360degree view and some short steep tree runs off the top (see trail map, looking up, left of Tram) with good snow. You could hike up off the quad up Northway to the Peak. It’s worth doing once to ski off the Tram summit. We skinned up from Stateside to the Peak just to do it.
Stateside - yes, it’s worth exploring over there. Jay is too small to not explore everywhere! Must do it! There are some good runs and glades off the Jet Chair (skiers far right of resort). But the runs in the middle area and Stateside flatten out fast, so tree runs are mildly steep for like 5 turns and then get flat really quickly. And the glades here have some weird drainages so if you’re not careful and blindly follow tracks, you suddenly come across hidden streams or drain outs. Be careful
Have fun! It’s awesome to explore Jay without Canadians around and just fun to play around in the glades and decent snow cuz Jay Peak is so far north.

I was also at Jay on Friday and conditions were great with the new snow. This year Tramside has been much more crowded what with the Tram not running midweek and having limitations during the weekend, so I prefer to stay at stateside. You can still take Wedelmaster from the Bonnie to access most of the tramside trails. Andres and Beaver Pond were much worse than usual. Over off the Jet Timbuktu and Kitz Woods are always fun and Buckaroo Bonzai off Goat is typically good as well. The glades are deteriorating fast though.
Highly recommended to hike up to the peak and do Valhalla if it is still open.
There's a whole different vibe mountain-wide without the Canadians...i.e., more dbags.

Yes, they definitely attract the "entitled" part of Canadian society. It is a great place to ride the trees, I actually really enjoy the stream run outs once they are full as they are surfy and super fun. On trail, it is a pretty benign resort IMO.jayisking wrote: ↑Apr 5th, '21, 07:37 I was also at Jay on Friday and conditions were great with the new snow.
