Re: Suicide Six Rebranding
Interesting history of Suicide Six, including the explanation of where the name came from.

From a marketing perspective, it makes sense. Frankly I'm suprised it took this long. The terrain may have been considered difficult once upon a time, but today it's a small family mountain and I'm sure parents aren't keen to explain to their six-year-old why the mountain is called "Suicide Six"

Re: Suicide Six Rebranding
Forget explaining the name, I was thinking more from a marketing angle, how many families, for who this would be a perfect spot, don't even bother to look simply assuming the terrain would be too extreme?easyrider16 wrote: ↑Jul 6th, '22, 08:10 From a marketing perspective, it makes sense. How about "Snowflake Mountain - Where Everyone Get's a Trophy!" And if you once had balls but wish you didn't or don't anymore, you can ski on the woman's ski team.
But seriously, I think what they are doing makes a lot of sense for multiple reasons...including for sensitivity reasons.

They could call the resort Squaw Valley as that name just became available.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine.

Re: Suicide Six Rebranding
Saskadena Six.
In the Abenaki language, “saskadena” (sahs-kah-deena) means “standing mountain.”
It was chosen by the resort team to honor the original inhabitants of the land and the mountain’s multi-generational legacy and values of community, inclusion, adventure, discovery, and fun. The name sends a powerful message of connection both to the deeper history of the mountain with the Abenaki nation and to the present-day community at large.
The "Six" of our name comes from the very beginning in 1936 when Wallace "Bunny" Bertram picked the hill labeled "number 6" on a local map that highlighted potential mountains that could be the location for his rope tow-served ski area.
