monday 12/2 report
overall a good day. certainly not pretty w generally poor viz as some fog & clouds parked on top. felt like my first real ski day of the season. did the 9-1 shift.
hit most of the open terrain. the groomers for the most part were mid-winter crispy & firm as the new machine snow needs to be tilled a bit. the exception being mouse trap under the guns which featured "softish" bumps.
the nats were the best. will call upper GB rotd. rather soft nat bumps w little exposure. upper chute & flush good. upper northstar good but lower lots of rocks to work through. vagabond good with avoidable rocks. problem w all the runs on that side was skiing out on caper which featured goggle coating snowmaking and "soggy" spots that practically stopped you in your trax.
in the NR, rime was well groomed. the upper dipper liftline was good as was upper cat. ridge featured maybe the best bumps on the mtn though very skied in. too much to avoid on powerline. mid downdraft good. took that into cascade where the lower section was very thin & rocky. my skis survived but will wait for more snow.

Skied 9-12. Surprised by the light crowd. Very grippy groomers.

Started the day on a natural Cascade. Closed out the session on a powder packed Downdraft. The canyon rocks. Love the natural snow feel of the mountain.

Looks tasty... I've never got to experience the Canyon without any man made base snow underneath. I've had nice fresh or semi-fresh soft bumps, but eventually the troughs reveal the nasty hard base on it. Especially on Cascade which gets a lot of grooming.

I'm sure you have, there were many years that LEF and cascade were the only trails that received snowmaking in the canyon.jimmywilson69 wrote: ↑Dec 3rd, '24, 06:10 Looks tasty... Re: monday 12/2 report
Afternoon Report [pretty much a slightly tweaked Skiadikt report].
overall a good day. certainly not pretty w poor viz as some fog & clouds parked on Snowdon; was a bit clearer up top. Not my first real ski day of the season though. did the 1:30 - 4 shift.
hit most of the open terrain. the groomers for the most part were mid-winter crispy & firm as the new machine snow needs to be tilled a bit. the exception being mouse trap under the guns which featured "softish" bumps.
the nats were the best. Great Bear was very good but not rotd. rather soft nat bumps w little exposure. upper chute & upper flush good. upper northstar good but lower lots of rocks to work through. vagabond good with avoidable rocks. problem w all the runs on that side was skiing out on caper which featured goggle coating snowmaking and "soggy" spots that practically stopped you in your trax.
Upper Bunny Buster still very good, especially on the right partway down after getting out of the man made stuff. Below Mouse Trap, Mouse Run is the best option though they have gotten Lower Chute much better.
in the NR, rime was well groomed. the upper dipper liftline was good as was lower cat [quite good actually w/ very good cover]. Upper ridge run featured maybe the best bumps on the mtn though very skied in. too much to avoid on powerline. mid downdraft good.
ROTD: late day, post rope drop on Double Dipper. From what I've skied in the Canyon past several days, I think it has the best cover of all of them.
