Electric power production and data centers

Post by Dickc »

Read an interesting article a while ago about Microsoft, then another today about Amazon Web Services.

Briefly, Microsoft is trying to get Three Mile Island restated for carbon free data center power, and Amazon is building a data center next door to a nuclear plant and trying to get permission to hook directly to it bypassing the grid.

Nuclear power is the obvious answer to the data center power problem. It's one of the many reasons the tech bros are donating so much money to Trump, so he'll cut all the red tape for them. It's not actually a bad idea but my fear is that it won't be properly regulated under this administration. Of course under Biden it would probably be over-regulated, so pick your poison.
